Preload spacers and non
Okay, so I installed my OME lift, and personally am not too happy with the height. I wanted it to be a little bigger.
Anways, im thinking about getting a 1" spacer for the front end, hopefully that will give me some extra lift in the front, as it looks lower than the back.
Now, Im thinking about just going to Daystar and ordering a pair from them, as its only $60. Also, I wont need to compress the stupid coil again, and installation will be easier than a cornfed spacer, which preloads the spring, and takes the place of the topplate.
My question is this: Whats the benefits/differences in these two types of spacers. What is the difference from putting a spacer on top of the top plate vs underneath it to preload the spring do?
WHat do you think I should do just if I am looking to even out the front, and dont really want to go through the hassle of compressing my spring again?

Check out schaefer's frankenstein setup, he uses a top spacer. How high are you going to go? For most people, anything more than 2.5-3" is trouble for the CVs.

Okay, thanks for the replies guys.
Even with a top spacer (like the daystar 1" spacer), you have to compress the spring?! THat doesn't make sense... Seems like you just sit it on top, compress the upper A-arm and insert.
Does this daystar spacer come with longer screws?
(Im talking about the first individual kit here for 96+ 4Runner: http://www.wheelersoffroad.com/toydstrlift.htm

Yes, the Daystars come with longer bolts. To put them in you have to knock out the original studs. To do so you have to compress the coils and remove the top plates.
I have the Daystar 2.5", it actually gave me about 2". It uses the top spacer and one inside the pack. I've added a 1/4" top spacer to that to add about 1/2" extra lift.

okay, so with a spacer that doesnt preload the spring, it is a little easier to install because you wont have to compress the CRAP out of the coil...right? You just will have to compress it so it wont pop off when installing.... is this right?
I just dont want to go through the hassle of compressing the spring more...taking off the compressors were a pain in the
they got stuck in there and I had to use a crowbar and mallet to get them out.

Hey i am in that same situation with the OME setup. i went ahead and got a 1 inch cornfed spacer. Unfortunantly i have not put them on yet so no results. From what i understand you have to modify the shock cover/protector to make it fit?? I went with cornfed since i live nearby and was able to go and pick a set form them.
