possible coolant sources help

hey all

i just got my 1986 toyota 4-runner (22re) put back together and running almost flawlessly. except that i have 2 coolant leaks. one looks like it is coming our of the oil pan for some reason and the other is coming from somewhere under the intake manifold (not head gasket becuase it is new).

so my questions are:
1: why is coolant coming from the oil pan?
2: what are the other possible sources (hoses, gaskets, anything) of a coolant leak around the intake manifold (besides the thermostat housing, head and intake manifold gaskets becuase they are both brand spankin new).

thanks all for you help.

Are you positive that the leak under the TB is not draining on to the oil pan?

There are 1/2" OD or so coolant hoses going to the throttle body for preheating.

Your lower leak could be many things, such as: water pump, freeze plugs, heater hoses, rear engine drain valve, the pipe which runs under the exhaust manifold and connects to the water pump, or any of the three radiator hoses.

Good hunting.

My 88 was just rebuilt and I had a mysterious coolant leak. it would not leak for days then....a large puddle would just start flooding the drive.....I was getting very Mad. I could never replicate the leak ANYWHERE. Well one day i heard what sounded like a guy taking a leak under the truck.....and BOLTED out the door at a light! I popped the hood and looked everywhere. I finally saw the source. There are supply and return hoses on the back of the engine that are for the heater core. Well one of the clamps was not fully sealing. I tighted it like a champ and have had no leaks since.

The thing is.....the coolant would evaoprate so quickly with the headers being right there....I could never see the source unless it was actually flowing. :pat:

Anyways.....tighten and check all hose clamps for a possible cure! It was that simple for me. Good luck!

PS.....I was stopped at a back country road light......I dont suggest doing that in Rush Hour traffic!

Your intake leak is probably coming from the metal pipe that uses an O-ring to seal its self on the under side of the intake (near the center). The pipe then goes around the back of the cylinder head and has a rubber heater pipe connect to it.
