possible to convert from auto 2WD to auto 4WD?
hello all. I'm new to this forum. I have been reading these forums for some time now. Here is my question:
I have a 99 4Runner auto 2WD:pat: ... I just finished paying off some debt and am ready to start modifying. Would it be possible to go from 2WD to 4WD auto? what parts and approximately how much would this swap cost me? I did consider getting a used 4WD, but i dont want to be stuck making payments, it feels great to be debt free
. all input would be greatly appreciated.
i currently have a deckplate mod, rear locker, and riding on Bridgestone Duelers AT (non revo's).

i would say it isnt worth doing the conversion, unless you have lots of time and access to spare parts.
It would be easier just selling your current and buying a 4wd. Just my .02
WELCOME!

thanks for the input. i was lookin around for a similar year 4runner and they aren't as bad as I thought. Prices ranging from $8-13k. I want a 4WD and hit up all those awesome looking trails!!

Why don't you just trade with that guy who is lowering his 4X4

thanks for the sugestion! However, i would prefer a 4th generation, I am currently browsing for a 99-02 4Runner on autotrader within my area.

FYI, 99-02 are all still 3rd gen, they just have the freshened interior and fat lip bumper, plus a few other things. 4th gen is 03 - present.

Yes 2wd is easier to sas and if you plan on running a solid axle anyway i would definately suggest turning your 2wd into a 4wd. I have done it, and I prefer to sas a 2wd because that means we are not cutting up a perfectly good 4wd to do so. I say go for it and don't look back!!
