Poor acceleration problems---advice needed

Now that I have my 91 Runner back up and running (new engine) my 94 Runner 4WD has decided to start giving me problems. Just like children. I started noticing a poor acceleration problem about 2 months ago, but it was gradual. Now it's driving me crazy. It's always when I leave a light or start out driving. Sometimes it doesn't act up at all and sometimes I can hit the gas and nothing. It continues to do it even if engine is hot. The other day I was at a stop light and it wouldn't go anywhere. I had to let off the gas and it finally kicked in.

I've replaced plugs and plug wires. I did the Seafoam thing (gas tank and PCV hose). The next thing on the list (from Toyota PDF Problem Checklist) is EGR Valve. Can you guys think of anything else I should be checking before I tear into the EGR valve? I hate taking off the Air Intake if I don't have to disturb it. I'd really like to try and fix this myself without giving someone else all my money.

As always thanks guys!!

Steve

My guess would be to try checking the air intake/filter to be honest with you.... you'll be looking for oil deposits.

94x4 said something about the Air intake and oil deposits. That happened to me. My intake wasn't mounted level so the oil that the throttle body was supposed to suck in at the top of the intake had collected in my MAF. Which resulted in a new MAF and new intake. So DEF check that out! :o

That was one of the things I was wondering about also. Also the Gas Pump? It feels to me (and I'm not good an decipering problems with a car) like there's air or something in the gas lines. Like it takes it a bit for the gas to get through the lines. But then I thought if that was the case wouldn't the car die due to lack of gas?

I'd move on to the injectors and then the TPS (Throttle Position Sensor), which seems to be hitting alot of people lately.

I switched out the AMF's last night. No help. I went today to buy a fuel filter. I figured that was a cheap easy thing to try. But I have one question. Does anyone know where it's located. I'm going to try and swap it out tonight after work and any help in locating the son of a buck would be helpful. I checked out the Service PDF and couldn't find anything on the filter. My Haynes manual talks about the 4 cyl, but doesn't tell actually where the filter is. Anyone quickly know the whereabouts?

Between #3 and #4 cylinders, passenger side of the block, above the starter. Access panel can be removed in the wheel well. You can see the shiny black filter in the image below, above the blue oil filter:

I was a bit confused at first. It took me a second to realize the oil filter was on the wrong side. I think I might have confused everyone. I said the Haynes manual shows where the filter is in a 4cyl, but I failed to say it doesn't show where it is in a V6 3.slow. that's what I'm working on. I think I found my answer though. I did a search (which I should have done first) in the tech writeup and found out how to do it.

Thanks for the photo. I love this group. Everyone so willing to help out.

Shame on you for not "Searching" first, that'll be two demerits for you mister, now go to the back of the line.

ONe other question. In the tech write up it doesn't say anything about putting any type of sealant or tape on threads to keep from leaking. Do I need to worry about this or just put it on.

I had similar issue once that cleared up on it's own. The suggested problem before I had to dig into was simply debris build up in the gas tank. As our vehicles get older there is a greater possibility of debris plugging the fuel pick up.

Just a thought...

You should'nt have any worries as it has "compression" fittings like those on pretty much all plumbing fixtures, just tighten according to spec.

So what did you do? Drop fuel tank and clean out and reinstall? Anything else?
