Talking Parts are in

Well I had a few parts arrive today, my first few additions to the new rig actually. My hood protector and my Amsoil air filter came in. I ordered a deckplate from a website that one of the other members posted for me. I am still looking for somewhere to fing a 4.25" hole saw from. This seems a bit larger than the average saw from what I can tell. I need to get out this weekend and do some hunting for one. I guess for now I will put in the air filter before the deckplate mod is done. I guess it can't hurt anything. I will also be putting on my hood protector this weekend too. Very excited to get these parts in. I have a big list of other things that I want to do too. The damn truck does not even have 1,000 miles on it yet and I am starting to go crazy.

I gotta be careful because I have a wedding that we need to save some money for next June. I just need to make sure that I add stuff in moderation.

Cybrenergy,

I have the same year and model 4runner as yours and I have less than 500 miles on mine. I have already put in an Amsoil air filter but I am holding off on the deck mod. It seems like I have better throttle response just with the new air filter. Have you tried it out yet to see if you notice any difference without the mod. or am I just imagining things. Also, I am planning on getting a hood protector soon. What brand did you get and how do you like it.

well you better have someone else hold the money then because the mods never stop, once you start that's it! Well at least that's how it is with me, I can never stop, never have enough money always want something......I'm trying to get my audio/visual stuff in with my new alarm, I keep telling myself that's it for awhile after that, i'm going to be spending some major money on this mod that's why, going to hurt my wallet for a long time.

If it get's too dificult to find somebody with a 4.25" hole drill you can get a Dremel tool (Home Depot, Wal-Mart, etc) and get the bit that cuts not only down into a surface but also cuts across the surface. I don't know tha name of that bit but it's a strange looking drill bit and is sold where all the other Dremel supplies are sold.

Then, once you've got the air box out, trace a circle on it using the deckplate as a template. ** Then you're ready to cut your hole. Of course be sure to use plactic & tape, saran wrap will do, and cover the inner back end of the airbox before you start cutting so as to contain the shavings in the front of the box.

** a better idea is before you pull the air box out put that deckplate down there on the front surface of the airbox to get an idea of where you want the hole to be in reference to the other stuff (like the window wash reservoir, etc.)

I was going to use my dremel but my dad loned out the bit that I needed to the neighbor. So I had to use my firends Rotozip, that thing is awsome, if you can find someone that will let you use that or if you have one break it out instead of the Dremel, the Dremel is a little to small for my liking, I used to to sand down and clean up some of the edges and it was a little hard to work with. The Rotozip also handeled the kick that some of the waffle syle insides caused. Just my .02.

You're right Stump, about the waffle interior of that airbox. Some of those ribs were like busting thru a door. Dremel did well with smoothing out the edges though.

I have not put in the air filter yet to see what kind of difference I experience. I am kind of hesistant since I have not even floored the truck yet. I want to get a feel for how it is @ wide open throttle before the air filter is changed and then WOT with the new air filter.

I got a genuine Toyota hood protector from www.toyota-parts.com. I have not put that on yet either. I am hoping to get that on this weekend.

I have a dremel tool, I would just rather find a hold saw. I want one clean hole, in one clean shot. I don't want to have to trace around an outline and risk doing something stupid. I will do some hunting this weekend for the hole saw, I am sure that I can find one somewhere.

I agree with placing the deckplate on the air-box and marking it prior to removing the box to be sure you can access it after installation. All you guys with the fancy tools, I traced around the deckplate with a pencil, drilled a pilot hole, put a fine blade in my jigsaw and cut away. The ribs in the box are pretty tough. After the jigsaw I took a file to the rough edges. Nice neat hole!

Make sure you clean out all the shavings!

As for cleaning it out after your done, just take a hose to that bad boy after your done, and maybe blast it w/ some air from a pump, if you got one. Just make dang sure you get every bit of those shavings out, don't want those bad boys get'n in your engine and screw'n up the whole operation. Hey cybrenergy as for noticing a diff. at WOT, I'm not sure about w/o the deck plate, but w/ the mod. when you stomp on it, you get this enormus rush of power(maybe it's just me pretending, LOL) but the sound that you get is amazing, the sound might be what is making me think that I have a huge rush of power. You seem to have some uge V8 type intake, the rush of air through the hole and Hi-Flo AMSoil is just a beautiful thing to hear. Make sure to let us know what the WOT feels like w/o the mod. done, I'm kinda curious myself.

I really wish I had access to a dyno. It seems that many people claim different HP gains from this mod, I just wanted to see for myself. It would be nice to dyno test each mod to see how much it really gives you.
