Running light kill question

Has anyone out there done or seen a running light kill switch? There have been times (usually for work) that I have had to leave the Runner running, and I would prefer to kill the running lights (head, tail & markers), just so the boss would have a harder time finding me.
I probably should have checked the tech section before asking, but if anyone could point me in the right direction--

Thanks

Since you are in Canada I am sure you have the government mandated DRLs. I love DRLs and think it is one of the best safety features going, but,,,

Toyota has the worst DRL system on the market. No doubt about that. I think GM has the best and it deactivates when the veh is in park or the parking brake is on.

There are a few TSBs published in the US for the newer 4Runners with DRLs on how to deactivate them, but you loose the whole system. You still can't just turn them off when you want.

You might try seeing if there is a TSB published by Toyota for your year and model on how to deactivate them. If you look over the schematic carefully I am sure you can find a way to install a switch that you will be able to control them with.

Good luck.

I had that same question, check out this thread for more info. It was a pretty good discussion!

NO,,,,Up here in The Great White North everything newer than '90 (I think) has to have full time DRL's. Unlike many North American made vehicles, Toy's didn't have any way of turning them off, the others were usually setup so that when the parking brake was set the DRL's were off. I personally think they are a great safety feature, but I would like to have the option of turning them off when I'm not driving (can't stand it when the boss asks why it took me so long to find a simple valve set,,,don't ask!).

Thanks gadget, I'll be checking with my favorite dealership to find out what they have to say, if thats a no go I'll be going with a home grown version.

Thanks again, and later all.
