Octane Boosters

i was looking at some cans of this stuff while waiting in Toyota Service. The brand I as looking at was NOS I think. They claim to raise the octane rating by 7 points (for off road use only of course). I've heard of these products but never tried them. Anyone had any experience? Also was looking at the post regarding Xylene and Toluene Here That was very interesting. Guess its time to get out my lad coat and play chemist :fireman:

Well, raising the octane will only help if your engine has a high compression ratio. If it doesn't then it won't do any good to put a hight octane rating gas in your engine if it can run just fine off of regular unleaded. If you are turboed or supercharged then it makes a difference. I saw in your profile that you have the 3.0L. That's what I have and I've tried all the octane boosters. I also tried toluene and it doesn't make a difference. It makes my truck run a little smoother, but no different than if I put in 92 octane from the pump. You can try it, but with my expiriances, it's a waste of money.

They're just alternatives to getting 100+ octane gas.

If you're racing alot w/ a vehicle w/ very high compression and using a forced induced engine, then having real high octane gas is a good thing helps engine to be smoother and you can boost higher. (lame reasoning)

higher octane means you can advance the timing which inturn can produce even the slightest bit more hp to help you move faster.

these products are just a cheaper way to attaining the 100+ rating w/o payin at the pump for the 100+ octane gas. believe me, it's hella expensive!

so in the end, is it worth it? i'd say if you're into going fast! then try it out. but if you're not racing then i'd say prob not worth it.
