Newbie getting a 95 Tacoma

Well tomorrow I am buying a 1995 Toy Tacama 4x4, regular cab, automatic 4 cylinder. It is a solid truck from Pennsylvania, hardly if any rust. It has 66,000 miles and is in mint shape. The price is $6,595.00.

I have a couple questions:

When the guy pulled it out of his garage ther was 3 drops of gas on the floor, the truck had little gas in it according to the guage he said he will fix it before I buy it. Is this common on these? It it really the gas tank or a line?

When in drive at a stop sign the motor sounds like it wants to possible stall. Maybe it needs a tune up? or turn the Idel up on the carbs? When it park though it sounds good, when you rev it up ther is no knocking or valve noise.

Thanks for your help,
Newbie

if its a tacoma it doesnt have a carb... i would make him get those issues fixed first..... possible stalling isnt a good sign at all....... if its been sitting for a long time though... and 3 drops.... sure its gas? as gas evaporates pretty quickly... unless its sat for a long time and is bad that it turns jellified....

Yea I am pretty sure it was gas. It smelled pretty bad. Even walking around the back of truck I could smell it. No it has not been sitting the guy bought it at a auction in PA and he said he put 350 miles on it.
Is that a good deal? I can change the plugs and wires. Do you think that will help?

Thanks

Considering the fact that the 2rz-fe in your Tacoma is fuel-injected, you need to thoroughly clean the fuel system. Gas that stinky is not a good sign.

The truck must have sat for a long time before the guy bought it. At the minimum, I'd replace the fuel-filter and have the gas tank cleaned out.

Servicing the fuel-injectors can be another expense if you need new ones. However, all you may need is some good fuel injector cleaner run through the system to clean them up.

Why is he selling it?
The fact that he bought it at an auction and only put 350 miles on it before he decided to sell it would have me a little worried. I'd ask him if either he could get it checked out by a mechanic of your choice, or if you could get it checked out BEFORE you buy it.
Like others have said, if the truck sat for long at the auction you may have some dirty/clogged injectors.

Is it a commercial business? Does he sound like he might know anything about it? Go into something kind of technical and see what he says...like make a guess on the fuel line, for example.

He probably bought that truck for less than 4000 I bet.

I just talked to the guy he said it was leaking at the sending unit... I thought that would be on top.. The truck had little gas in it.
