new rear bumper design

Corey and others looking for a good looking bumper here is the one that I am having build next month.

If everything comes out ok I'm going to try and market this. there is also a tire carrier that bolt on to this for those of you that are looking for tire carrier.

Right now it looks like the prototype is going to cost my around a $1000. But as for marketing them the more I have built at one time the less the over all cost will be.

If anyone is interested in maybe buying one of these once mine is down. drop me an e-mail so that i can keep you up-to-date.

For posting pics here on the forum you can simply attach them to your post. Just look for the section titled "Attach file:" right above the submit button.

Definitely a good start, do you plan to have the mounts run inside the frame or outside?

Yes it mounts inside the frame with (2) 1/2" grade 8 bolts ea side (holes already in frame) but I might add one more on each side for good measure. there are also so support the run fromt the side rail on the bumper the one of the bolt into the frame.

This for the tips on posting pictures guys! and sorry I got off topic

Ok, was wondering cause I didn't see how you were gonna give the side "wings" support. The brackets on my Stout rear bumper are an L shape that wraps around the frame on the outside and bottom with ¼" plate and has been totally bombproof so far. The only other suggestion I have is to run an additional diagonal from the forward end of the receiver tube to the point where the bumper body and bracket meet on either side to give it some additional strength for tugging or winching from the middle.

Interesting design Matt.
One day I'm going to need one for the rear.

Also try www.montypics.com

It's not an album, but it's a pic storage place, and you can post the pics here, but they are watermarked with his logo on them.

Stout is gone, but there's another guy who has the jigs and I believe he's still building them. Let me know if you want the contact info, I can try and dig it up for you.

3rd gen bumper

You might take a look at my bumper design for the 3rd gen bumper/tire carrier. I built my for my '99 4Runner and it has held up very well.
http://www.hunt4steve.com/99_Rear_Bumper.htm

I have tested this bumper on the rock in Las Cruces, and didn't have any issues at all.

hey SHANE ... im in the process of fabricating a bumper similar to stout's. i was wondering if you could take a pic of how it mounts to the frame for me. i have all angle pics from off-road.com but no mounting pics. they describe it there... but would just like to get a visual. i could designe my own, but i'd like to see how they did it just to get some ideas for a solid mount.

if you could, id greatly appreciate it
thanks

Yeah. And how'd it turn out?

I also have some questions on what thickness and size steel you planned on using throughout.

Let us know!!
