Wlcome to the board, this is a great place to ask whatever you want to know and learn lots. Get some pictures for us as soon as you can(I can't really talk b/c I haven't yet either, haha). But welcome I sure some other people will jump on this topic soon but the synthetic brand that I am about to switch to is going to be AMSoil. I think I remember someone running AMSoil in this forum, not to sure but I'm gona go out on a limb and say Corey does. My firends dad is an AMSoil dealer and he gave me a run down on how AMSoil rules and I must say it convinced me. So we'll see next time it comes time to change my oil I think I'm gona switch it them. AMSoil stuff is not cheep but it last a REALLY long time. Good Luck and once again welcome.

Welcome aboard. I'm running Amsoil 0-30 in my 2.7 '99. I'm almost at 90K. I love not having to crawl under my truck every 6 weeks to change my oil. I drive a lot. I run the Amsoil almost the full year and just change the filter every 6 months, top off. My tranny and diff is also Amsoil. Great stuff.

Check YotaTech's Tech section under Maintenance and Repair. Someone has a write up submitted regarding switching over to synthetic fluids.

It definitely seems that switching to Amsoil is the way to go, the question that I have had (and still have) is when to do it. I have not even had my first oil change yet. I am guessing that I should wait a few, but how many is that? Should I switch to Amsoil on my 3rd oil change, 4th, 10th?

Not sure where I read this, but I remember Toyota representatives stating that you shouldn't change to synthetic until you put 10k miles on your truck.

Well I got that mark licked easily, 126K and still ticking (what else would you suspect from a Toyota).
