Arrow New Exhaust

I am looking to put a new exhaust in my 1994 Pickup (4x4, 22RE). My muffler is cracked and i think the cat. is plugged up. I figure while I'm at it I might as well increase performance, so I want a whole new setup, and possibly a header too. I'm on a budget so I just want something practical. My question is if I replace the muffler, cat., and pipes with the same size ones will I have to weld anything or can I do it myself? Also, how do i get the o2 sensors into the system? Thanks for all the help, I really don't know too much about this stuff. Any help, advice, reccomendations, etc. are greatly appreciated.

Id go to a local shop, pick a good muffler like a dynomax or flowmaster and let them run new piping for you with teh muffler and a new cat, be the cheapest way. Then throw down on some headers later.

I'd call that a more redneck thing to do...unless they run straight pipe and weld on a used coffee can to the back and its done on an '87 Paseo or Tercel.

Thanks for the help. Do you suggest I get the muffler and cat. beforehand. I can get the muffler (dynomax superturbo) for about $20 and a catco cat for about $30? Also, I think the stock pipe size is 2", but can I put on a 2.25"??Thanks again for all the help.

Yeah, if you can get the stuff beforehand for cheaper and just let the shop install the pipe and stuff for you. 2.25" is the max to go on a 4 banger without losing too much backpressure.

Where are you getting the muffler and cat from so cheap? Those are pretty good prices!

I'd personally go 2.25.

Well, doing it yourself would be a pain and some welding would be involved. Shop around, $200 is a little steep, also, if your stock piping is ok you could just have them put the cat and muffler in place of the old an dkeep the stock tubing to cut cost.

$200 is definately too much...it only cost me about $25 as a base price (minus tax, the tailpipe and some other stuff I had done) to get just my muffler put on. It doesn't require anything special to put a cat on as well...just more cutting and welding. I would look for maybe around $60-$100 at the most for the whole thing.
