Question My truck is different

I have a 1987 4x4 with a 5 speed transmission, as far as I know everything is stock. A buddy of mine has the same truck right down to the year. One day while comparing trucks we noticed something different. When sitting in the driver's seat of my truck the transfercase shifter leans to the left of the transmission stick. In his truck the transfercase leans to the right of the transmission. I started looking around and found several other trucks (about the same year) and 4runners(about the same year) that were like my friends(transfercase stick to the rigth of the transmission stick). I was wondering if anybody had any idea what was different. I have a couple pictures i've saved while searching around.(if they attach right)

another pictures. This one has the transfercase stick to the left of the transmission.

another question: how do you put multiple pictures in one post. So you don't have to do what I did.

Are your engines the same? That is, are they both 22R (non-EFI) or 22RE (EFI) engines? If I recall correctly, the transfer cases with 22R engines is to the left of the shifter, and the 22RE is to the right.

Yep, there's two different shifter setups depending on year/engine/tranny configuration. I'm guessing you have the carbed 22R with a G52 tranny and your friend has the 22RE with the W56 tranny.

Shane's spot on... I've got a 22R engine with the G52 tranny and my transfer stick is on the left of the main one. It basically just goes straight up and down. The main stick is further to the right and when you put it in reverse it practically wants to rip the boot out of place.

I just realised, you guys would probably prefer a transfer shifter on the right hand side?
Myself, having a right hand drive vehicle, prefer mine out of the way on the left side.

I'd love mine to be on the right side of the stick. That knob gets really hard when your knee has been resting on it for a while.
