My "Newest" HID Project...

It's been awhile since I have had a chance to post about my newest HID project. You may or may not know about my HID Hella fogs I installed awhile back...but they are performing excellent. I upgraded my headlights to the following:

Acura TL Bi-Xenon HID Projector Headlights w/BMW ZKW Clear Lenses and Angel Eyes "Halo" Lights and Philips DL50 50 watt (5300 lumens) HID Bulbs w/Retro Solutions 55 watt DIGITAL Ballasts.

It's "daylight" with no glare. The Halos are wired to my corner lights so I can run them with or without the headlights. Here are some pics:

With Halos installed, but before Halo shroud:

With Halo shroud:

This is what I used from Home Depot for my Halo shroud:

Finished project:

Just Halos:

Looks awesome, make sure your cutoff point on the HID's isn't too high that it's blinding everyone at night. I hate people that do that.

Edit: How strange, Beyonce's song "Halo" just started playing in my roommates room.

Nice work Paul. Halos turned out great.

How did you mount the halo shield itself?

Thanks. The halos and the shroud are clear siliconed on. Seems to be holding well.

To be honest.....I don't recall. I pieced it together over a few months.

how is it with 55w ballasts? I have a very similar setup; TL-projectors, ZKW lens, philips bulbs, and hella 35w ballasts. I keep contemplating if the more powerful ballast would be worth it to try out.

It maybe all hype, but I figured since I had the 50w bulbs, I didn't want to underpower them with 35w ballast. I did read that it doesn't hurt to run the 35w ballast. Is it brighter? Maybe a bit. I have a very sharp clean cut-off and the set up I have makes my girlfriends 7-series BMW Bi-xenon lights look like halogens.

You got any pictures on advice on how to mount the TL projectors? I am starting a retro with TL's and am having a hard time mounting the projectors to the reflector.

This thread should help:

https://www.yotatech.com/forums/f2/h...w-pics-133563/

Go to Home Depot and purchase (8) about 2" long bolts with (3) nuts and washers per bolt. Line up the holes in the projector with the reflector and mark where you will need to drill a hole for the bolts to fit through. Be sure to clear silicone the rear of the projector to the housing and where the bolts come through. The pics in the above thread should help.

I've done that, but am just having a hard time getting the aiming down. Seem like they are pointing to high, although I haven't placed them on the car yet for aiming, may have to try that as well.

You should have the projectors as level as possible in the reflector housing before sealing the glass back on. Then you can do final aiming adjustment with the original housing adjustment nuts.

How much would you charge someone to make some lights like that? Or do they make them like that now?

you would have to do it yourself. It's probably not a good idea to pay someone to do it unless they are doing it on your truck on the spot. For instance, if you paid someone across the country to make one for you and aligned from their truck. Then you receive it in the mail and mount it up on your ride.... the alignments could be way off only because the heights difference on both vehicles.

side note, look for my thread my project too. I will finish the write up tomorrow.

Dang.... super clean job.. To clean it up even more have you thought about some led's for the markers? It would flow more into the halos and HID's I mean color wise. But either way very nice.
