That tapered bolt might have worked good for me. The Toyota bolts could grab about the bottom 1/2 of the threads but the top half of the threads were useless! The bolts would wobble around in the threads like a childs toy-remember the Weeble Wobble!

well, i hope i have better luck. after doing my homework, i still ordered yukons.
4.56 front and rear w/ front and rear master install kits. i have 126k on my bearings, i figured i might as well replace them while they're all pulled...
got them for $501 shipped to my door for everything...

Latest update, I've got 250 miles on it now. No problems so far, it drives great. Starting from a stop is so much easier now, so far is one of the best mods I've done, maybe only second to the locker.
I checked the speedo with my gps today and it looks like it's about 14% off, up from the 11% it was off with the 4.30's. I did hit the trip odo when the gears were installed, but I forgot to hit the other trip odo when I filled up with gas. So, I went ahead and refilled with gas today and I'll track it from here. If I remember correctly I filled up with 40 miles and refilled today with 232 miles. That's 192 miles and corrected should be 218.88 miles and pumped in 11.006 gallons and that equals 19.88 mpg, which seems unbelievably high b/c I was getting about 14-15 mpg in town and almost all these miles were in town. I think I must of had more than 40 miles on the trip before I refilled, so I will post again when I fill up again.

they're all made in the USA - South Carolina to be exact. Forged from US Steel and Heat Treated in the same facility as the high-end Richmonds.

I have 45K on the rear Yukon 5.29's. Installed in March of 2002.
I do want to pull the rear 3rd and have a look at it, just for the heck of it.
Front Dana 44 Yukons are still new. 20-30 miles on those guys.

What is your RPM with the 4:88's at 65. With my 4:88's V6 2000 5 sp 4runner I was 3200 rpm with the speedo showing 65. I have 285's and in5th gear. I am not sure what my actual speed was. This is too high IMOP.
My Yukon 4:88's are stamped Richmond. The setups have been horrible. I had them setup twice buying the installation kit twice. Both times the pinion became loose after about 100 miles. I ended up pulling the 4:88's and installed 4:30's from a wrecked 4Runner. Can't keep spending $250 a crack to have someone setup the rear end. Anyway, my RPM's are much better with the 4:30's.
** BTW, I am selling my New 4:88's front and E-locking 4:88 rear. Only 2 months old! Rear needs setup again.**

If the pinion is walking, they were not set up right. That is a common one.
4.88's and a 3.4 V6 need 315/75/16 to match the stock 265/70/16
4.56 and a 3.4 V6 need 285/75/16 to match the stock 265/70/16
5.29 and a 2.7 Liter 4Banger needs 315/75/16 to match the stock 265/70/16
2.7's with the 265/70/16 come new with 4.56 gears.
Finding a qualified gear installer is not easy.

Yep pinion is all over. I don't think they crushed the crush sleeve at all. I have the one from the first install. It looks just as tall as the one that they put in the second round.

I am done paying someone to setup at my expense the ring and pinion. I have over $1200 in the rear 3rd in parts and labor and it is sitting on my work bench. For that I could have bought a new one.
