I'll check my numbers today but with my V6 auto and 4.88s I think I am at ~75 mph @ 3000rpm. I need to grab my GPS and get some better numbers.

so dragr, yours came with 28's and 3.90's right?

If so, when your odo says you went 200 miles, how many actual miles do you think you went? Over 200, or under 200?

Yes 28's and 3.90's. 200 would be low, in my case I'm 14% off by GPS. So 200 miles would be 228 miles after the correction. If the speedo is off, so is the odo. I'm thinking about getting one of those gizmo's that Steve has to correct all that b/c it sure is aggrevating to be thinking about how fast I'm actually going all the time. I still don't quite understand why my speedo isn't more correct now b/c technically I have more gear than stock even with the 285's, so the speedo should read high-but it doesn't for some reason. I was 11% off with 4.30's and 285's and 10% off with 4.30's and 32's.

Keep in mind that the gizmo only works on the 99+ 4Runners with the electronic odometers.

Not the cable driven rolling ones.

Andy---just curious....are your Richmonds tapped for 7/16x24 American like the pdf file says or are they 11mmx1mm?

Brett, I think there may be two sensors on the runners... The ABS feeds the speedometer and the speed sensor in the XF case feeds the odometer.

read my explanation in that speedo/odo thread and see what you think...

I got Yukon MIK's and checked using the new bolts from the MIK's, so to be honest I don't know for sure, but I imagine that they're metric...

Nice thread! When I re-geared from 4.30 to 4.88, I was planning on going to 35" tires, but just couldn't afford them or fit them yet. But, I was planning. So, now that the SAS is in progress, my gears are set for 36" tires, which should put me really close to dead on. Heck, i may even sell my gizmo (Tru Speed Sensor) if I don't need it.

Hey, if you decide to sell it, give me first shot.

read my explanation in that speedo/odo thread and see what you think...

I would agree with your chart on that thread except that my GPS shows the speedo reading 14% low. I don't understand why, every since I changed tires and or gears it has never been right. In theory I would think that now since I have a little more gear than stock (about 8% more or so) that my speedo would read faster than I'm actually going, but for some reason it's not working out that way.

Edit, now I see what you're saying, the speedo will read wrong, but the odo may be reading lower than it actually is. Making a little more sense. That would explain why my gas mileage looked so awesome! Correcting the mileage using your method reveals 15.6 mpg for my town miles-that's about what I would think instead of that 19 mpg I came up with. I'll check it again about 150 miles or so.

Gizmo-

Yes it works with ABS. I used it for years with ABS and the ABS did indeed work.

Now it's gone and I don't miss it. The ABS that is.

Crap, then I don't get why my mileage is so utterly completely horrible.

hey dragr, how many miles do you get to a tank roughly. If I do good, I get about 200 a tank.......But I will be filling up a new tank today, it'll be my first full tank with the 285's. We'll see if my mileage got better.

I get 250 from a tank in-town and 350 on the highway with 315's and the 2.7.

That is a big tire to roll.

Without correcting anything, I would get only about 180 miles a tank on the interstate at about 75 mph with the 4.30 gears. But I also have a 285 spare on the roofrack-it kills gas mileage. I would love to get 250 miles to a tank, even on the highway.

Wow, that's amazing. What kind of rpm's do you turn at 75mph with the 4-banger?
