My Baby is Gona Die

Well I just went and picked up my Runner from my mechanic today. Iwas ding an oil change on her the other day and couldn't get the oil filter off(the punk who did my last one must have over tightened or cross treaded the thing) it wasn't coming off for me soI took it into my mechanic and had him do it(no more Jiffy Lube shops for me any more).
Well I went to pick it up from him and he just glanced at me and gave me one of those looks. He said that it took hom 30min. just o pore the 5.5 qts of oil into the engine. There was sludge built up all in the oil pan and throughout the engine. He suggested that I dump my baby ASAP and get a new one. The gunk ws so thick and so built up that it woulddo nothing but get worse as time went on.
He told me it was nothing that I did, but it was frot he previous owner who I called before I bought it fromt he dealer, and that woman abviously lied through her teeth to me, she had to know about the problem and that was obviously the reason they were dumping the Runner. Then there is that Jiffy Lube shop that must have known about the problem and never evenbothered toe inform me about it either. There's not much else I can do, but take her back down to stock(thank The Lord I haven't sold any of it yet) and get all my mods off, try selling her to a dealer or private party(telling each what EXACTLY is wrong so that no one else get screwed like I did) and trying my best to find a new Runner that I can afford.
I just hope my parents won't force me into getting a "car" . I stillhave't paid thisRUnner off how in the world can I get anoter one. I know it might be better for me in the long run but I can't bare to not be in a truck and I certainly can't imagine anything other than a Runner. I'll keep yall up-dated on my search, if anyone finds a good deal on a 96-98 4WD Runner let me know. Thanks.

Sorry to hear about the news.
But don't give up yet.

A lot of Toyota dealers have a machine which flushes your engine and rids it of built up sludge.

Talk to Gadget about this and see if it's worth looking into.
Most dealers charge about $115 I think for the service which includes new oil and filter.

If the process that Corey is refering to actually works it would be well worth it. No sense in dumping the rig if you don't have to. Sorry to hear the bad news. Good luck.

Try the flush.... possibly a switch to synthetics?? What do the synth. fans think?
I've been thinking of switching over to synthetics because of the complaints of sludge in these engines.
Corey, wasnt there a "silent recall" because of this problem? It seems to me I saw that somewhere around here.......

I have read about a sludge problem on some Toyotas.
Look on Gadget's site for a little info.
http://www.gadgetonline.com
http://www.gadgetonline.com/AMSOIL.htm

On the above URL, scroll down to 4Runner.

I'm sure Gadget has more info on this sludge thing.

I would contact Toyota customer service at 800-331-4331 and tell them what your mechanic told you and see what they say. It can't hurt and maybe they'll help you out.

Also take a look here

Hey... if this pans out and you get a new long block,(or any help at all from toyota) make sure you contact Cory w/ a write up of your expierience, what Toy. did to help, end results etc.
Errr... I'm sorry Cory. Would that be something you would be interested in for a post on the forum?? I dont mean to step on toes. It's just that if he posts a reg. thread here on the forum, after we all stop hitting it.... well, it'll end up WAAAAAAYYY back in the archive someplace.
Anyway, good luck. I gotta believe Toyota will help in some way.

Sounds good.
We also have our section here in which to leave feedback whether it's good or bad about a vendor or dealer under the Customer Feedback area.
https://www.yotatech.com/forums/foru...?s=&forumid=38

That section does not see a lot of use, so maybe a lot do not know about it.
It is listed on the main page here though.

Dude, that sucks. I am sorry to hear that. It is a shame how a previous owner can screw things up with your vehicle and not even own it any more. I had that problem too, just not the same thing you have. Goodluck and I hope you get another Runner! :fireman:
