Misfire... Tried everything.

Vehicle: 1996 4Runner 2.7L 4Cyl
Alright ive been having cylinder2 misfire for about 3weeks now and have tried all i can to get rid of it.

Here is a list of things ive Checked/Fixed
Spark Plugs-replaced

Plug Wires-replaced

Cap-replaced

Rotor-replaced

Checked Shims-Fine

Ran Injector Cleaner

Cleaned injectors

Tested Coil-Fine

Thrown things while kicking tires

I am really lost on what to do from here, ive tried everything and my neighbor(who was a GMC mechanic) is lost aswell. I really dont want to take it into a shop and spend all my lift money to have someone fix a problem i could fix myself. Problem is, im not sure what to check.

The Motor idles a bit rough, but runs fine, and i have never actually felt or heard it misfire, but The OBDII scanner says that Cyl2 is the only problem.

Anyone who can give me any solid advice besides see a mechanic please help!

Did you run a compression test?? What were the results? If everything you checked was good, I would suspect a bad injector. I have replaced many and I might even have a couple good ones lying around

compression test came back fine, if you can find a good one let me know a price as replacing the injector will likely be the next step.

when you did the comp test, did you actually remove the valve cover and check valve clearances? I have seen a case where the comp test was normal and an injector was replaced thinking it was bad. Turned out it had tight exhaust valves, causing the miss but not tight enough to fail a comp test. Once the valves were adjusted, it ran perfect. If you indeed need an injector, $30 shipped

I checked the clearance after the comp test, they where right on.

I will likely need to buy an injector, i will let you know when the time comes.

Sorry to jump in but I have recently started experiencing a hesitation while excelerating that I'm thinking may be a cylinder misfire as well. Unfortunatly I'm not a wrencher and will need to bring my truck in for service and want to be as intelligent as possible before I walk into the shop. The list of basic check/replace items you give in the first post gives me a place to start.

The closest I can come to the feeling I'm getting is when I used to ride motorcycles and the spark plugs would foul. The engine will idle fine (little below 1000 rmp with fans/AC off) and excellerate (slowly) just fine. But, when I either gun the excellerator or when I use to high a gear to pull out of a turn, the engine seems to spudder or bog down breifly before I let off gas or shift down.

Hopefully I won't have to go through all the steps you have but I would like to know if my issue seems to be in the same ballpark.

Oh yeah, Mine's a 2000 4runner SR5

I had same problem. my injectors were clogged. have them professionally cleaned. I paid $10 each. runs so smooth now. and especially replace fuel filter. Made a world of difference.
