Question MIA, tranny oil...$1800+ fix...

Okay, you ready for this:

- "the monkey" replaced my tranny and tcass oil.
- 1000 miles later started having issues shifting into 4th
- checked tranny oil...2qrts low
- filled her up
- oil low 2 days later
- no outside leak

Brought truck into specialist to drop tranny, transmission output seal, and tcass input seal are good. Tcass oil quantity is correct, no over flow. They are rebuilding transmission and new clutch install. Big bucks...quoted $2900!!

Where is the oil going? My head is spinning? I thought it is impossible to burn gear oil!

Any idea???

I just dont want them to rebuild tranny, install new clutch and the tranny blows up again. Want to get this issue resolved before installing tranny back into truck.

Thanks for your help...

Check the coolant. The trans cooler is in the radiator and there have been cases where they leak internally. Usually the trans fluid starts looking like a strawberry shake though.

I'm not sure who "the monkey" is that you're referring to, but if you don't have another issue (as stated above) can you prove there was something done incorrectly by said "monkey"?

I should have asked first: auto or manual trans?

Forget fixing it! That's WAY TOO MUCH. Buy a used one for $300 trans + $150 tcase, get it installed, and you're on your way!

Don't forget to fix said coolant lines as well.
