4.88's vs 4.56's

4.88's vs 4.56's
I have the chance to upgrade my 4.56's for 4.88's and wondering for you all out their if this would be worth doing?
I have 33's a 5speed, 3rz, armor, and I carry a bunch of stuff.
Or would this money be better spent elsewhere, and wait for 35's + and regear to 5.29's?

Thats probably a small jump in gearing for the money. I love my 4.88's with 33's, its a good combo. I like the sound of 35's and 5.29's though.. i'd probably wait for that if I had that choice

With 4:88's/35's and a 5vz-fe i still struggle a bit going up grades in 5th gear. If you only have a 3rz--i might think about the 5:29's especially if you are going to 35's. Mind you though that your highway speed will pull some revs.

I regeared from 4.10 to 4.56 to help my 22RE cope with 31's. That jump was well worth it and is very noticeable. It brought the engine back into its torque band. It was worth a one gear difference on hills.

I second that one, I had a 98 Tacoma with 4.10 and 33's for a while with the 2.7 and 5 speed. I switched to 4.56 and that brought it a tad better than stock. I'd say 4.88 would be a bit overkill and 5.29 with 33's would definitely be overkill.

i always think lower is better but i never hit a highway over 55MPH so it dosent matter for me. but strength wise the 4.88 is one of, if not the strongest gear set you can put in, and a little lower gear cant hurt right.

35's are alot of tire to push--not sure the 2.7 would do very well with 4:88's. On hills you will definetly feel the 35's with only 4:88's.
Are you worried about highway speed?

im with hross, 35s can be a tad overbearing on a 3.4, i think putting them under a 2.7 would be very annoying for city and unbearable at highway. remember that bigger tires don't necessarily mean better ability. take the change in prices from a 285 to a 315, then add the amount of money you'll lose in gas over the next year, take that figure and use it as a budget for research on more beneficial addition to your truck. i like how your truck is coming along, but i don't see 315s in your future without major upgrade

Not worried about highway speeds with the 35's, just needs to hit 60, I just don't need to be the slowest in the group so the guys with 4.10's and 22re's I will be able to go faster.
I am gonna upgrade to 35's when i swap it in about 2.5ish years, when i graduate, get a DD, and chop the top off. I believe thats a major upgrade
I don;t think 4.88's would be over kill, because i came with 31's and 4.56's from the factory. And plus over the taco my runner weighs a crap load.
With my guesstimate I can get into 4.88's for under 400, thats with selling/swapping my 4.56 from third.
I am building a rear bumper with maybe a swing out tire carrier, next, then maybe gears.
