Longevity Poll: Mileage of a 3.4L

I'm looking at adding a 98 Limited Runner to the family, and interested in everyone's mileage. Please poll it up how many miles your un-molested 3.4L's have made it without headgaskets, bearings, etc. (timing belt changes are excluded).

i have a tick over 140 right now, so by the end of next month, 141k. PO took really good care of her, and i do too in the 3k ive put on her since august.

only thing replaced to my knowledge is the h2o pump and timing belt. runs great, no leaks, plenty of power (relatively speaking). great engine!

Thanks for the info! Any things to look out for, common problems with 3rd gen runners or 3.4L's? (besides normal stuff such as t-belt/h2o pump changes)? Also I've heard 3.4L's like to get dirty throttle bodies or MAF... any truth to it and plausible reasons for it?

BTW: truck I'm looking at is a 1998 Limited Blk/Tan with the E-Locker, all the options I know of (PW, PL, PM, P sunroof, P antenna :-(, leather, CD, cruise....) It has 165K on it, tires are ok, condition is great, but t-belt change is uncertain. I've got him to 7500 for it so far, may be able to go to 7000.

Sweet! Who voted 260K and beyond? Any secrets or just normal toyota?

Most of this stems from a 3.0 burning my mom at 120K. (no comp in #6).... It was a well maintained motor (by me) and driven with the utmost respect (by her), and still failed. I trust 22RE like no other, mine has 250Kish on it and I beat the snot out of it every time I drive it. I've heard all the stories 3.4L's isnt a 3VZE so drop the worries, but I just wanted to hear from some fellow board members who can vouch for the drivetrain, or even the whole truck.

got 105k on mine. water pump was leaking when i bought it @ 96k as customary. I did the t belt and w pump which was easier than the crapy 3.0v6 i had.
besides the water pumps leaking due to paper gaskets from factory(now use metal gaskets) the 3.4 is a solid motor and makes great power and there are alot of mods that can be done. i would deff buy another 3rd gen 4runner.

A little hard to judge.....mine has almost 150k on it so that's what I voted, but it doesn't mean that's when I had to do anything to it....so far so good, had a leaking waterpump that I changed with the timing belt and that's it so far.

I have 193, 000kms on my '96 which is about 120k miles and it's still running strong. I also had a buddy that had a '97 with 360,000kms which is about 224k miles and ran like new. His parents were the original owner and only did regular maintenance. These motors are solid IMO.

I sold my last 97 3.4 with 206k miles. Last I saw, it had 220k miles. Running fine.
