I was looking at buying a 98 limited with 175K on it and when I test drove it, it felt and drove great. 8500 was a great deal but I wanted one after 2000.

To cure the dirty TB or MAF sensor, just install a TrueFlow air filter. Once the stock filter starts clogging it lets dirt passs by........

I have almost 200k on my odometer, but replaced the engine after hydrolocking it at 70k. I installed one of the 30k japanese imported used engines and haven't done a thing to it yet, except change the oil and plugs.
So my estimate is 140k on the engine and still haven't replaced the timming belt, gonna see just how long it goes before it breaks.....

BTW how's my hometown doing? I was born in Monett but grew up in Mt Vernon......

130k here and origional water pump and timing belt (soon to be replaced). My secret to longevity is changing the oil every 10-12k miles with synthetic and changing the filter every 3k miles.

Yep, it was for the early 5VZFE. Unlike the 3.0, it was an external leak, so not much chance of internal engine damage and the leaking was visible.

Did I hear ELtON write that he had 143,000 on the original tranny fluid?

My 99 runner has 92,000 on it and going strong.
Lets face it...........these great trucks are made greater by the fact that we can share experiences, tricks, tips and valuable maintenance info.
With this , we can expect our runners to last a long long time while
John Q Public owners gets stealer shock when realizing how far behind they are on proper maintenance and what the cost of parts are..
Gotta love it!

I'm almost to 150k now, but I don't see any reason why I won't make it to 200k miles or even 300k+
......my truck will rust apart before it dies mechanically.

Yep, there was a recall on the early 96-97 3.4L versions for HG issues.
I had my HG done, but the recall has since ended.

i change my oil & filter about every 1500 miles. i dont use synthetic b/c i get free 10/30 @ my work. my oil looks just as clean when it comes out as it does when it goes in, i figure its better than wasting money on synthetic.

I do waste my money on Amsoil Synthetic and change the oil and filter every 12000 miles. Currently 126k on the clock, anticipate a motor swap with super charger @ 210k

97 Runner with 172,000 on it. I bought it when it had 110,000 and since I've had it the only thing I've done to the engine is oil changes, filter changes, spark plugs and wires.

96 4runner here. just barly hit 105k. Runs great. Changed the water pump and timing belt at 99k. Oil pan gasket has sprung a slight leak, but that might be due to changing to synthetic . Other than that, I love it.
