lockers?

hey fellas, just a simple question. whats the difference between a lock right locker and a detroit. i just bought a 85 pickup and the guy told me it has a lock right locker in it. should i switch it out for a detroit? i here it clicking when i turn. does the detroit click the same or is it louder? also is the detroit as sensitive on turns as the lockright? thanks for any help

There's a good explanation of them here.

The lockright uses the stock carrier of the third member, detroit has a tougher carrier with it. The lockright is a good locker for medium to even harder trails and mild crawling, and yes the clicks and bumps are normal for the lockright..... detroit clicks the same and is more spool like on the road, rattles you more too imo. I like mine!!!

anybody tried the powertrax no-slip yet? sounds pretty good, but i think it's more of a limited slip than a locker?

i'm kind of leery because it's twice what an aussie locker costs right now, but you never know

Speaking of the Aussie Locker. Has anyone heard anything new about the ones for the newer Toy 8"? Like have they finished testing them and started producing them yet?

Yo kyle, my buddy has one in his runner... does real well. Helped him install it and its a real locker, not a lsd. looks like a ez locker only much quiter and smoother.

Smile Lock right clicks .. its all good.

I have owned both lock right and detriot -soft locker-.

Both are very good lockers. However, I use my 4x4 for daily driver and enjoy the soft locker for its road manners and semi quiet cornering. Lock right worked 100% time but, was annoying with its clicking and "bronco riding" cornering.

If price is an issue, lock right, if not detriot or even better ARB.

1995 Tacoma with lock right
1995 Hilux with detroit soft locker.

Looks like we are both still waiting.

They are supposed to email me when they are finished with the design. I am on the mailing list they tell me.

I thinkI am too. Bill is supposed to let me know, but he said no later than the end of November, but I guess they must have gotten hung up or something. Oh well, i'll just have to wait a little longer.
