i get told that too, just because its a big plastic end... then I point out that it is all ready a cheap copy, and just make me a darn key... (on a '99)

you may, I don't know, but if still doubtful, just have them make one anyway, and if it doesn't start the truck, you have a chip if they complain, just say its for the doors only, or for the hitch, or you want a separate one for the glove box so you don't have to take keys outta the ignition, or dealer maybe for verification.. plus they can make pretty much guaranteed not crappy keys from your VIN

I was unaware that they had chips, but, the only way to know is by calling the dealer.

Key

I have a 2004 4WD reg cab Tacoma. I have had a key made and it works just fine. It is a regular key with no rubber on it.

Update

Went to Home Depot and had a key made it would unlock the door but not turn the ignition..Went back had them tell me they can't cut a key for truck cause it had a chip in it..I told her no it does not..I told it unlocks the door and that's it she said that becaue it needs to chip to start the motor..tried to tell her it was cut wrong..She did not want to here that..Left went to Lowes got a key cut that works...
