During the summer i'll be running a soft top on the 88 4runner. How do i keep it from being stolen? Or poeple getting my radio and speakers? Also, i'll be running a top a few days...for trips down to the beach and whatnot. Is there something you ahve done ot yorus to keep your sterio hidden...or anything @ all?thx guys

I have never had any trouble with my soft top getting sotlen or things stolen from my rig. I guess I am lucky, but then I have never had a booming stereo in my rig either

Same here, no problems, soft top on for many years now. Soft top w/o the frame is basically useless, and removing the frame, even w/ a quick install setup takes about 30 minutes. I suppose you could confuse a thief with an assortment of screws to attach the frame to the bed, use phillips, allen, Torx and square drive screws plus some metric and SAE bolts. That would keep all but the most well-tooled theif away. As far as electronics, either use crappy old stuff, or hide things and put them in secure locations. I'll be installing my new radio (replacing the crappy one I have) in my Tuffy Security console, it is all steel, bolted to the floor and locked. Probably put the CD changer in there and the CB is hidden away as well. For the back, I'll be building full width slide-out drawers to hold all my gear sfe and out of site. Only stuff that will be out will be camping gear and food and that will only be there when I go on trips.

My brother-in-law had a Viper alarm with a motion sensor in his Jeep. Worked great and he never had any problems. You can also get a pager option, that pages you up to something like two miles away, so you can catch them in the act.

I got an annyoing alarm with motion sensor. Makes noises when someone is even near it. I can control how sensitive I want it and for the most part I've learned it annoys people so much that they just stay away. My stereo has the removable face plate and my speakers in back I just cover with a blanket when I get out. The portable tv/vhs I just either throw another blanket over it or just trust in the alarm. My soft top's never been messed with though.

the only way to prevent interior theft is with a hard top.... honestly, that what sucks about having an open vehicle....

and even then, if a theif wants it, he will break windows to get your stuff

I have a softtop in the summer for my 4Runnner. I never heard of someone stealing the top itself. As for the stuff inside, I hate to say it on this forum, but you need to have a Jeep mentality. Keep your doors unlocked (so the theifs don't break a window or slice the top to get in) and anything you don't want stolen, don't keep it in the 4Runner. That is the price you pay for open air vehicles.

Yep very good point in saying that if they really want it they will break your window. I guess you could always sew a loop onto your cover and bolt one down to your cab roof and lock it to make it look like its that much more "attached".
