Has anyone ever removed the spare tire from underneath to make the back lighter. I keep allot of camera gear in the cargo area which weighs it down.. Do not want it to sage to much..

 

i droped mine to do the diff breather and you can watch the truck lift up as the tire hits the ground..no more than 1/2 im sure! i would leave it off if you work and drive locally. highway..put it back on!

go with new springs and maybe add a set of bilstien shocks for the rear

 

Is this a common problem with older 4 runners? I have a 90 runner and it seems to sit about half to a full inch lower than the front. Not to mention, the rides like a dump truck and seems to bottom out over even the smallest potholes. I am thinking it needs new springs and shocks?

its pretty common problem for the 2nd gen 4runner well my 91 sat level not sure why ... but if you do a search you will find a fix for the problem

 

i took mine off coz its useless it does feel quite a bit lighter back there though..and i only bring my spare when going for trips or out wheeling. and it makes my back bumper look higher than it really is...its all about the looks man hahaha...

btw you must have crazy amounts of high end glass to be weighing down the back of your truck enough to notice... great collection of work

you might try finding some '99 springs. apparently theyre a bit taller than the other years...and should level it out back there w/o going for lift springs.

 

Thanks for the advise... I think i'll go without the spare untill i take a long trip.. or till i can afford new springs...

as others have said, dont ride w/o the spare.

if you can afford the risk of driving without a spare and pay for a tow truck to get yourself towed to get a tire replaced, i am sure you can find the money to buy some rear springs. search the classified here and on 4x4wire to see if anyone has some downey springs for sale.

Mine had a slight sag. Sag no more. I love my mild lift. Handles much better and much smoother ride (doesn't bottom out up front or on the back overload/rubber snubbers)

 

I'll have my Downey rear springs for sale in the near future. Getting some OME 891's to replace the Downeys. If you want, you can have first dibs, though I have NO IDEA what to price them at yet.

 

About how much will it cost me to have a set of rear springs installed?

Hey everyone its been a while since i posted.. So i'm ready to the read end up my 4runner leveled out for hauling more weight. I also want to to bigger tires on my stock 4runner. Whats the biggest i can go. Do i need to have it lifted too.
