ISR for '96 3.4L done today

Well, I was in the middle of changing my spark plugs when I realized that I had taken the entire intake system off of my engine. Instead of putting it back on stock, I jumped in my buddies car and headed on over to the hardware store and picked up:

(1) 1.5" PVC end cap
(1) 1" PVC end cap
(1) .5" PVC end cap

(2) Hose barbs
and some fuel line

I followed the write up by "96 4Runner"...and it was very simple, Im suprised not everyone has done this mod!! It was easier than doing the deckplate in my opinion.

What I noticed off the bat was the slightly deeper tone to my exhaust at low RPMs and a louder throaty sound when gunning it. I unfortuently changed my sparkplugs and did the ISR mod at the same time, so I dont know which gave me more performance. After these upgrades, I noticed much stronger acceleration, and a much "punchier" feel to the gas pedal. Plus, the sound is great.

The only problem I ran into was getting the .5" end cap into the smaller hole. I knocked it down there with a rubber mallet for a while, and had to stop due to the fact the main intake tube was starting to tear. Not too much of a big deal though. Everything else went very smooth.

Did you get an increased "whistle" sound? When I did the ISR on my S/C'ed 3.4L I didn't notice any power gains, but I got this annoying whistle/whining sound..

Well, I have the decplate with a K&N drop in...so the sound was increased qutie a bit.

SLC, nope no whistle. I have a pretty heavy "sucking" sound when I gas it though. I like that sound

Do you still have the whistling? You didn't happen to knock off a vacuum line did you? There's one that sits below the throttle body that comes off a bit too easily. If that's pulled, then you'll get a nasty whistling sound. I did that myself and didn't find the cause for .. 13 months.

Hey Mark,

I only kept the ISR caps on for 3 days. When I removed the caps and put on the boxes, the whistling sound went away..
