Interior lighting and dash guages

I just got some halo reverse indiglo guages from ebay for my 2nd gen runner. Iknow BTOWN4RUNNER aka: Ryan you have them installed on your runner got any tips or tricks for me on the install to make it easier. Also i want to mod my door panel lights, remove the red lense and make/buy a clear one to change the bulb color or install those cheap stobes that ppl put in their headlights. This way ppl will notice when your door is open.

Now about footwell lighting. Does anyone ahve a good suggestion on the lense housing to use in the footwell area so far i have just seen the light and not the unit the light is in.

Firefighter:

Here's a write up that UK Meyers did on his 2nd gen that might help you which is in the "Tech" section of Yotatech:

Hey thanks for the link on that. Seems very easy to do I just hope my indi gauges are cut properly. Plus this give me an excuse to replace some rocker switches with some stock ones from a wrecked runner (moment of silence please)

Hey FF. I mentioned in another thread, my friend made clear green ones out of 1/8" plexi. I assumed he heated the plexi to get the bend. Maybe get the milk white plexi to give a softer white glow. Good luck.

Hey Firefighter I hope that write up helps you out. If you have any more questions on the install PM me or send me an email I'll be glad to help. The only thing I can think of that's not in the write up is that I took out the two bulbs from the back of the cluster to run the wires for the indiglo out the back. You won't need the backlighting anymore and it makes a nice 1/4" hole to run the wires through. Good luck. Be sure and post some pics when your done!

Firefighter, congrats on the purchase. You will love them, I do. There are a couple of things that I can think of. When I put mine on, I had to drill a hole for the pin, just like Joey had to. Also, the gauges are somewhat thick and the needle actually rubs on the gauges, so what you have to do is get some thin sandpaper and sand down the bottom of the needle base (black round thing) where it meets the gauge pod, so that it does not rub the face. If you understand that, that is great, I just don't know how else to describe it.

Joey said that he doesn't use the original bulbs, but I do. If you don't, you can't see the trip miles or vehicle miles gauges in the dark. Plus, I tapped into the stock power to run it. When you take the back off, you will see a crap load of wires. Get/borrow a multimeter and figure out which one powers the stock gauges and tap into that. Also, there is a grounding post on the back too, use that and you don't have to run any wires anywhere but to the back. The grounding screws is labeled GND. The only problem that I have found from running the power from stock is that when you mess with the round knob to adjust the brightness of the stock gauges, it will draw power from the reverse indis. Just kinda get the stock light until you can just see it and they turn the gauges all the way up and it is perfect. If you know what I mean.

I apologize for the confusing explanations and the lack of pictures (hopefully getting a digi cam for Christmas). If you have any questions, concerns, etc, please PM me. Goodluck. :fireman:

P.S. I see that you are a firefighter, so am I. What type of trucks does your company have?

Thanks for the future info.

I also want to add that probably the most important thing is that you use some good double-sided tape. That is important, or the faces will come off. Goodluck and let me know how you make out. Thanks. :fireman:
