Question Intercooler on stock intake?

Would/Should you install an intercooler on a stock intake? Would it help performance or restrict airflow?

Why? You won't really be doing anything. You're taking abient air from outside and "cooling" it with more ambient air from outside. Until you add a heat source to the air intake (turbo or supercharger) there's nothing to gain.

the question is, why, its a stock intake, meaning the truck is probably also stock.....

its your truck you should do all the mods you want..... do the turbonator, the tornado, the weed wacker blower and the intercooler... you will have the fastest truck around

I Race a '94 twin turbo RX7. The intercooler in this aplication is very important. An intercooler is just a big radiator that is used to cool the intake charge air temp. A turbo or supercharger compresses the air and heats the air as a result of being compressed, and also flowing through a HOT turbo. This increases the amount of air that is taken into the motor because cooler air is more dense =ing more power. It also reduces the chance of ping or preignition. This is when the air/ fuel mix burns before it is supposed to and is not goot for pistons ( and REALLY not goot for rotory motors like the RX7)
An intercooler uses the flow of air over it's fins to cool the heated air passing through it before it get to the manifold.
Adding an intercooler to a stock intake with air temps right at ambient temp will do nothing.

Unless you have a turbo or centrifical supercharger then I wouldn't bother with an intercooler.

Ya my buddy has an S10 just like yours, 4cyl, pimped, etc. He has a cold air intake which deffinetly helped a lot and also a full exhaust. The truck is completely for show though and with a 4cyl and a stock rear end it will never be fast. He acuially put Nitrous Express in it too and his open diff just did not grip and he ran about .3 seconds faster at the track.

Do what you want man but I'd say intake and exhaust for noise and a lil more power, but just go looks.

Sounds good. Your friends S10 only with .3 sec faster with NO2? Thanks for the replies everyone.
