Infinity Kappa 60.5cs in 1998 4Runner?

Hi guys,

After tons of research and recommendations off this website and the web, I decided to purchase some Infinity Kappa 60.5cs 6.5" component speakers for my beloved 1998 3.4 V6 4WD 4Runner. I also purchased a US Acoustics 50x2 to power them.

Well, I dropped my vehicle off at the car audio installation shop where they had no trouble installing the head unit (Alpine 9833) and amplifier, but called me to tell me that there is no way the Infinity components will fit in my doors. Confused, I asked him if there were brackets or anything I could purchase but he said it was a no go, so I had him go ahead and bolt the amp and run the wires but hook up the factory speakers to the head unit until I find a solution.

Does anyone know how I can install these components in my front doors, or if its possible? I've read via a search here of people installing them in 3rd generation 4Runners as well as seeing pics through google, but no mention of any special mods. BTW the installations shop is pretty reputable and do good work; not some kid out of his parent's garage or anything.

Thanks,
Billie

Ill have to keep an eye out at my location for 3rd gens with components in mind.... Usually there is always a way to get components in.

What was the main problem, that the woofer was too big?

If you do get them in, call up the shop and let them know. They most likely will want to see how they were put in. As installers, it's always fun learning!

When I did my MB Quart, I had to do some cutting to the speaker piece to allow the speaker to mount further in... Once you open your door panels and take the speaker assembly off, you will know what I mean...

They simply said they were too deep and too wide in diameter; there was no way they would fit in my 4Runner. Definitely a downer as I was excited to have my system complete.

4x4fink got some Infinity 6.1 perfects to fit on his front. You may want to pm him to see what he did to get them on.

hehehe where there is a will there is a way...how much room would you have infront of the speaker IF it mounted flush? If you have an 1" or so clearance, you can make a mdf baffle that will space the speaker out fromthe door which should alleviate both problems.

If that's not an option you can always take a saw to the plastic preventing their mounting, provided that the window wont hit the magnet...

I have instaled Infinity Kappa's in my '01 and had not problems with installing components. Did your 4Runner come with components originally?
