Toying with SAS on the 4Runner. Since I can't do the work myself, how much would you think it would cost?

if you have to ask how much a SAS costs...you dont need it

your probably lookg at $1500 in parts alone and maybe defintly more than 10 hours of labor

 

sonoran steel has the skinny, big $$$, lotsa time, nice result.

 

An install would go for at least $5000.00 for parts and labor. Probably gets more exspesive the better the shop doing it.

Best bet is to buy $1500 or so in parts and make a good friend that has the tools and know-how that can help and teach you.

 

I’m planning to do this to my Runner within the next month. Let me tell you it’s NOT cheap to do it right. This is one area you do NOT want to skimp on.

Just for starters.

All-Pro or Marlin Kit (for the front) = $1500.00
Rear coil to leaf conversion (on Runner) = $700.00
Axle = $150.00 - $300.00
Knuckle Rebuild Kit = $100.00
Bigger Tires = $600.00 - $1200.00
Front and Rear Locker/Re-gear = $1000.00 - $2000.00 depending on lockers and whether you can do the re-gear yourself.

Misc. = $200.00 - $1000.00

That’s just a round number to give you an idea. Those numbers can be higher or lower depending on whether you can do some of the work yourself or not. I didn’t add in there the price to have someone weld and cut the old ˟˟˟˟˟ off for you.

Do a lot of research and you can save yourself a lot of money.

 

I just read your signature and see you have a 1996. If your planning to SAS that your talking some serious $$$$$$$$$$$.

I haven’t researched a 3rd gen SAS but from what I’ve read you have to reinforce the frame and do a lot of other stuff you don’t have to do to a 2nd gen.

 

If you want to see what a 2nd gen SAS cost look for my thread in the next week. I plan to keep track of everything purchased to give people a real idea of what a SAS cost. I also want to document it as much as possible so that people can see just how much fun it really is.

 

Go check out Pirate4x4 and TTORA . There is a lot of talk and info on it there.

Most of the time people are spending about 4-5k and thats doing it in their garage.

I would say a lot more to have someone do it for you.

I spent that much on mine and I already had the SFA to start with. It is all the little things that add up quick.

I quit counting how much I spent a while back so I didn't give myself a heart attack...and so the wife didn't have any evidence.

 

Worst thing to do is add up all the recipts down the line... haa
