How big can I go?
#1
I did read the FAQ's and saw a mention of tire sizes for each model. I have a 3rd gen with 16" wheels and tires. They came standard with 265/70-R16 Dueler HT. I really would like to put a more aggressive tire on the truck, but want to see if I can go any wider or larger. I may put the Dueler AT's on there too. Anybody have any larger tires on their 3rd generation (not considering lifts and what not)?

I am actually purchasing BF Goodrich All-Terrain T/A KOs. Size will be 265/75/ R16. I think a lot in this forum agree that these are very reliable and has the nice "aggresive look"
Check out this Tire Calculator
Hope this helps

I wonder if I can sell my stock tires. There are only 205 miles on the truck, I am sure that somebody in my local newspaper or Pennysaver may be interested.
Anybody here interested in a set of stock tires with only 205 miles on them?

I can't imagine 265/75R16 being 32", I thought the 75 referred to the width? My stock tires are 265/70R16, and they are definately not 32's... so if the 75 referred to the width it wouldn't make any sense that they would be 32's. I'm sure I'm just missing something here, but what is it?

It's not quite 32, but it's close. I'm certainly no expert, but this is my understanding;
265 is the width in mm.
75 refers to the sidewalls - being 75% of the width. So 75 would be bigger around than 70.
Check out this calc. It helped me to see it instead of trying to visualize it!

New Math?
If I understand how this markings work, here's what I came up with:
265/75R16
265 is the width in millimeters
75 is the aspect ratio (ratio of width to sidewall height)
16 is the rim
You take 265 and divide by 25.4 (# of millimeters in an inch)
This gives you the width in inches.
265/25.4 = 10.43"
Then take the width x .75 (aspect ratio of 75 - if it was a 70 multiply by .7, etc)
This gives you one sidewall height
10.43 x .75 = 7.82"
Multiply x 2
Two sidewalls
7.82x2 = 15.65"
Add the rim diameter
This gives you your diameter.
15.65" + 16" = 31.65"
So, in inches the tire is a 31.65x10.43R16
This is my understanding - can anyone confirm this for me?

Cebby, you are right.
99% of the time, at 32" tire will actually measure out to be about 31.5"... a 31" tire will measure at 30.5" and so on. I read an explanation of why once, but it was a long time ago and I don't remember enough of it to explain.
