Hello all,

I put this post on another forum and got some results(thanks Texas12), but just in case someone has actually gone through this, I would like to post it here.

My problem is this: When I run the truck and it reaches running tempurature, the starter will no longer start. Thinking that the solonoid contacts might be worn, I pulled the starter out to inspect. In an attempt to get the new contacts from Toyota, I just decided to get a Bosch re-built as the original already had 205,000 miles on it. Long story short....the newly installed rebuilt starter is exhibiting the exact same problem. If I do the ole BANG on the side of the starter trick it will reset enough to start sometimes....others I must push start. Either way its a pain....a big one. When the starter won't do its thing, I hear a faint and very high pitched noise. Almost like the power is whining down there. Another note....on cold it starts faithfully. Any ideas? I need a real solution here. This has been a year long saga. Thanks for the help in advance.

 

Have you checked your grounds?

 

Yah, we replaced all the ground and even put in new battery terminals and cables. What I don't understand is what mechanically is happening inside the starter when I smack it with the butt of a hammer and it suddenly works. Makes me think when it gets hot, something inside is getting sticky, but to have two starters do the exact same problem is mighty confusing.
