Oooookay, but only if you promise to never, ever take it off road, because driving over anything more than a small speed bump in either of those would result in massive body damage to those nice poser rigs There is a lot to be said about motion, not just size....you know what I mean! Flex and tire size!

I guess there is a bit of conflict with his description... Even so, 4.11 and 44's is a bit of a stretch even if the 350 part is right.

 

you could always pop the t-case in low range to try and get it started with those gears...might result in a little grinding when you try and go back into 4hi though

that rear on the second truck doesn't look like a dana 60 to me though...looks like a gm corporate 12 bolt

Look at this pic and you will see both.
Exhaust is run upright like that so that it doesn't go under water, which could cause water to get ingested into the engine if the engine dies while the exhaust is submerged (Hummers/HMMVs have this feature). Behind the exhaust pipe you can see the radiator mounted at an angle. A lot of desert/pre-runner type racers do this so that the radiator isn't damage by flying rocks and hard landings. In this guys case, it would be so he doesn't loose cooling ability when those huge tries rip out his front end when he runs over a cat

 

Why even shift into high at all? Scott@Rockstomper leaves his front case in low all the time. Four cylinder engine (now a 1.9 liter Saturn, but a 22R before), 44" Swampers, and 4.11 gears. Does just fine up to ~55mph.

I also have a rear-mounted radiator and have been strongly considering running the exhaust there too. Fording 40" water can be a PITA if you stall with the exhaust any lower. Everything else is already set up to ford water that deep.

 

Those actually look alot like the two trucks a guy on the PBB owns, AFAIK the only thing they ever see is mud.

Seems like an awful lot of work to plumb the radiator out the back.
I've actually seen a few traybacks here that have an upright exhaust... usually it's just because they're trying to make their little rig look like a big rig!

 

Baja racing trophy trucks have the radiators and electric fans in the back. They'd be clogged with dirt so quickly if they were mounted in the front that the trucks would overheat. Cooling is pretty important when you're running through the desert at high speeds.

if you switched the two trucks tires they would make more sense. the first one is definately set up for mud, and only mud. minus the tires of course. the second one doesnt even have a front driveshaft. and i doubt that 81-83 front axle is gonna hold up to a 350 and 44's.
