im new to the toyota tacomas and their headlights. I dont have a clue how to install them correctly. well i do, but dont want to mess anything up. I all need like a step through on how and which kits are best. i found a bit...recommend whats best tho...

That first link is totally correct, you will have blinding HID's that everyone hates.

Been there, done that. Not worth it.

Either do a proper retrofit or just get silverstars. Also 5k is as high as I would go if you do go with a retrofit. 4100k is better, same as OEM HID's.

 

I second that. Don't throw an HID kit in your stock headlights. You'll be blinding everyone. Plus, they're illegal. Do an actual projector retrofit the right way if you want HIDs, otherwise upgrade your headlight wiring and get some nice halogen bulbs.

I have hids in my 4runner and my dad has them on his truck both without projectors and both aren't blinding. If you go with a hid in the stock housings go with a 35 watt kit not a 55 watt kit because the 55 watt kit tends to scatter the light more in a non projector housing. And what I did on my 4runner is aimed the headlights down. And it all depends on where you live on how strict the cops are on hids. Here in Washington the cops don't seem to care

Impressive, I will have to keep those in mind for my MR2 that uses the same style headlight.

 

They are worth every penny ace JW speaker makes an led light for the same application but from what I have read they are brighter but also 6ish per light so yea, but the 96 has housing set up so not sure on an led application for that one. Search a little OP plenty of retro fit threads on here

 

Sooner or later LED's will start taking over the HID market. They are just now getting them reliable enough for long term automotive use, so now starts the process of mass production and cutting the price.

In a few years they will be as cheap as HID kits now days without all the hassles of them. Think a few OEM's are even considering going to LED's on the high end cars.

 

i will low beam, not that type of person. IM in nc. but, buy the kit from the first link, and just pretty much follow the instructions?

 

thats exactly what I would do.

 

Low or hi beam if your throwing an hid kit in it will still reflect light everywhere, your not the first or last to have light shining on everyone it's an easy install, good luck

 

What he said and why I got rid of mine, even the low beams were too scattered and I had to aim my lights so low to make it reasonable for other drivers that it was really no better then silverstars (actually the silverstars are in some ways nicer).

 

with a 96 taco dont you have sealed beam headlights? mine does and I'm currently searching for a headlight upgrade.
currently thinking Ebay black housing 7x6 projector lenses and ddmtuning H4 55w HID kit.

Well if you have sealed beams I highly recommend the truck lites, but again cost is always a factor if you have the loot go led if not do what your pocketbook/impatience lets you
