I`m trying to replace my broken wheel stud but I can`t get the drum off. I backed off the shoe adjusting wheel fully and I can`t get my bolts to grab into drum due to corrosion of threads (threads broke off on bolt). Anyone have another way of getting the drum off???

 

i have hit the drum with a rubber mallet before and that takes it off....make sur eyour ebrake is off as i made that mistake before

 

I`ve got it soaked with lubricant and gently hitting it with a hammer to no avail. Will keep trying

2nd Gen's have two threaded holes where you can thread in a bolt and keep working your way back and forth to pull the drum off. That's the only way I've been able to get mine off the last couple times.

 

I had one that was stubborn. After soaking it with PB Blaster, I tried to break it loose with a rubber mallet, with no luck. After upgrading to a claw hammer, it came off quite easily.

 

3rd gens to although my threads are history.

 

Yeah they do have threads too but if the drums are rusted badly enough they won't come off easy, chances are the threaded holes are history too. Rubber mallet and PB blaster will eventually work but it may take a while to really soak in enough to loosen up.

This is probably unlikely, but, hopefully your brake shoes haven't welded themselves to the brake drum...

I had this happen on my first gen. It was so fun. I had to take a dremel (my only cutting tool) and sit for about 3 hours and cut it off.

I then proceeded to run towards the largest cliff I could find. Luckily my friend was there and grabbed me before leaping to my death.

Well, I would cut about an inch, take a big screw driver and pry it off al ittle bit.. Cut more, pry it, cut more, then SLAM with a hammer. It was horrible. I was so drunk by the time I was done.

Like I said, there was a cliff close by and I woulda jumped.
