I have Michelin Cross Terrain SUV tires that need to be replaced on my 1999 4Runner. I do mostly highway with a little offroading. The three tires I have narrowed it down to are:
1. Bridgestone Dueler A/T REVO
2. BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A KO
3. Firestone Destination M/T

I would really like a aggressive looking tire with good traction in wet conditions. I was wondering what everyone's opinions were of the three.

Roy ... I did a great deal of searching about this a long while back and found that between the Revo and the T/A KO, it is a toss up. Both are great tires, but I think the Revo is the favorite around here (though there are many with the T/A KO as well). Shouldn't you be posting here too :

also - I think general opinion is that the Revo is far better in the rain. Hope this helps a little ... if you do some searches here on yotatech, you'll find a lot of discussions about these exact tires, and you'll find that there never has been much agreement one way or the other because all that you mentioned are good. I'm running the Michelins on my '03, I like them a lot but after my lift, I may very well go with the Revos.

 

a buddy of mine just got the firestone destination m/ts and has nothing but good opinions about them.. I saw them cut through mud really well at hollister last weekend.. there's a thread on here somewhere with his review. username is TacoBell. hope that helps

Having had the Revo's and the older non KO BFG A/Ts I think that there are certain things I like about each of them.

I think the Revo's are quieter, and they do a better job in snow and mud then the A/Ts did, but I actually disagree with people who say they have better wet traction. I think the BFGs handled better on fresh rain then the Revo's. As for treadwear, I can't speak to the Revo's as I haven't had them long enough to comment, but the BFGs I had wore amazingly well.

With about 55k on them, I still had a great deal of tread left. I think the newer KO style don't wear as well though.

The Destinations are less expensive and are right up there with the ratings with the Revos...I am getting these bad boys myself

 

I don't think the BFGs come with a mileage warranty like the Revos.

 

When I got to a 285 I'll be getting these as well. I'll probably try to stalk out a good deal before jumping on it though.

Firestone said that they will price match tireracks price..so I could get them for $143.00 per tire vs. $179.99 at the firestons shop and $171.95 on the Air Force base.... so thats good too... I hope tireracks price will stay that low.

how do they perform though?

As a for instance it seems that the Goodyear MT/Rs are the most common tire I see around here and on other boards I frequent. From what I've gathered, they don't self clean real well though, and can be a bit scary on wet pavement.

Whether or not they wear a long time or not isn't as much a concern as whether or not they're going to perform well personally. I'll risk losing 5-10k if it means better performance.

So far I'm really leaning towards the Firestone's as I've been very happy with my Revo's and some of the formula changes that BFG has made to their rubber has been making them wear faster from what I've gathered.
