what exactly is the 22RET vs. the 22RE. and how do i know which one i have? (or does the "t" stand for "turbo"? in which case, nevermind)

ALSO, he gave me 2 FULL sets of golf clubs (old, but still!). this truck is in GREAT shape, NO rust around the wheel wells AT ALL. everything works electrically. 108,000 miles on it. the guy works as the parts guy for the local toyota dealership, and HE bought it from the head MECHANIC at the same dealership (who had it since it was new). so i know it was well taken care of. the only thing it needs is an exhaust and i have to fix the e-brake cable. (any suggestions for exhaust/headers? possibly remove the *cough*cat-convertor*cough*. excuse me, i must've caught a virus or something) and, of course, there's a countless number of mods that i will be forced to do with time. what do you think? (this is the picture that came with the online ad. it's the best one i have at this time, but there WILL be more.)

oh, one wierd thing that happened. one thing i made sure to ask was if the rear window worked. he proved to me that it did (put it down and up before the test drive, and opened the tailgate). later on, when i went to put all the other stuff that he was giving to me for free, suddenly the window wouldn't budge. he said that it's never happened before. is it possible that it died right then and there? i guess i should say, is it LIKELY? what do you think/what should i do to fix it?

Nice find!

Did you check the "lock" switch located on the console by the up/down button?

haha, funny. (actually, it took me about 5 minutes to realize there was a window lock button)(shutup, i already feel dumb enough. hehe):pat:

yeah, i did figure it out though. the rear wiper has to be fully retracted in order for the window to move. it wasn't. now it is. problem solved. now EVERYTHING works beautifully. (sad to say, it almost runs better than my celica! haha)

i'll get some pictures up soon.

hope this helps

1.) if there both paid for go for it ... and i would keep the celica ( coolness factor ) and you'll need when gas prices jump .
2.) my favorite version is 1 gen ( no offense to any one else out there ) and yes i currently own a 1st gen ... 276000 miles and counting 4cyl 5 speed
3.) some probs i have noticed it loves to burn light weight and syn. oils so i currently have switched to 20 50 and my rig loves it . so far no probs ( fingers crossed )
4.) i do recommend that you test out the 4 wheel options on your rig b4 you go wheelling you will see what i mean you want to get a feel of how it runs ..
5.) haven't removed the top yet but i look foward to doing so in the summer waiting till i find a cool canvas top ... ( check out the thread on favorite runners one of the guys has a really awesome runner with a cool top . )
6.) if your truck is sagging in the back which seems to be common with all runner and all gen i would choose the add a leaf option it balanced my truck perfectly ...
7.) lastly and you'll here this from everyone here ditch the running boards ... much cooler with out .....
8.) one more thing sounds like you have a good head on your shoulders and yopu take time to think things thru that's nice to here in this day and age ... good luck .. and have fun with your new rig ...

you're the 2nd person now that has told me to ditch the running boards. (one of my roommates told me to switch them with nerf bars). why? i just can't see why anyone wouldn't like them. anyone got before and after pictures for reference?

They hang up while off-roading and make your rig look lower. Need I say more?

Before (taken from the net):

After removal with rock sliders:

If you wheel, they are worthless because eventually they will get ripped off. Rock sliders make more sense.

1. celicas made after '85 are FWD, transverse engine vehicles
2. they have much smaller engines than the 20R/22R/22RE they came with before '86

the 22RTE has forged pistons, a different head and a different ECU than the 22RE. you can get the low compression forged pistons for any 22R motor though, through places like lc engineering

Removing the cat is definitely not worth it - I mean, what would you gain, ~1/2 hp? Also, they're there for a reason... Its nice to see that LA is no longer the smoggiest city in the us anymore, and I think a big reason for that is fuel management features on cars.
