having gauge cluster/light problems

last night, i turned on my lights and the gauge cluster lights didnt come on. i drove home in the dark, it was kinda scary, also, before when i left the lights on after i turned off the car a beeping noise could be heard, indicating that the lights were on. this stopped as well. i checked fuses, thinking that was the problem, but nothing is blown. no dimming whatsoever inside. dont know whats going on. also, if it helps, the driving lights came on (but, like mentioned before, no cluster lights) does anyone know what has happened???

Did you turn down your interior dimmer somehow without knowing it? If not that and not a fuse then you may have a short somewhere. Mike

check a fsm and see if power somehow gets routed through the warning relay thing.... if so and its bad, could cause you to lose power to the interior lights... also vice versa, your interior lights could signal the warning relay thing, since they aren't working it wouldn't work either. sounds like a short, bad connection, or bad ground somewhere...

the warning buzer, dash lights, and tail lights are all on one fuse, so check tp see if you have tail lights. if you don't, check the fuse again.

Even if the fuse looks good I would replace it unless you have a tester to be sure.

I was just reading about this on another thread and the guy found out that the little dimmer switch was burnt out. He found out by bypassing the switch and wireing direct and the dash lights worked perfectly. If I can find it agin I'll give you the link, Mike

If this link doesn't work right just go to search at the top of this page and type in Dimmer switch , You see you are not alone,Lol. This guy tells what wires he by passed and how he did it. Good luck, Mike

I find it VERY helpful to have an OEM owner's manual as well as the FSM as the fuse layout is in both, but easier to carry onboard the owner's manual and easier to find the layout.

Anytime something like that happens...always check the fuses w/ a tester cause sometimes they are bad. I bought a big multipurpose fuse kit for like $20 and it has I think 5-6 of each A fuse w/ a puller and a tester and it is small enough to carry on board all the time.

Another helpful thing is to label fuses w/ little stickers so you remember what they are at a later date...easy to do and saves you time later or helps forgetful farts like me!

Glad you found the problem, but that fuse didn't blow for no reason...so now you got to find the REAL problem.

Good luck.

Sometimes pulling a badly wired trailer will blow your tailight fuse.... so if you've been towing, the problem may not be in your truck.
