Has anyone ran 235/85 x 16" ?
Once I install the 2" BL, along with a set of 285's on new 16x8" rims, I was going to put a set of Blizzaks on the old OEM rims for the winter season, So I was wondering if anyone has run this size of tire: 235/85x16"?
I figured that the narrow width would be great for getting through the snow and slush that we get around here during the winter months.

Bump! I was actually just wondering the same thing, should be a little over 31" & about an inch skinnier than 265/75. Seems like it would be a good tire choice, no?

hmmmm, I kinda like it. Has the military look, almost like a pinzgauer and Revo's come in 235/85/16. At just over 31" you should be able to run them without a lift I'd think, since 31" came as an option on my runner.

It took me a while, but I am trying this out. The Revo's in 235/85/16 are about 32x9.5, they really fill up the wheel wells.
not quite as skinny as I expected

Now that it sits a few inches higher the kind thing to do would probably be to call Stubbs and order some his 'running boards'. You know, to make it easy for the wife to get in & out of

I run 31x11.50's on my runner and have no rubbing or any problems like that. Thier super swampers so their foot print is acutally a lil wider than 11.50. The point of this is, you don't have to go skinny put large tires on. Skinny sampers look interesting, but skinny street tires look weak; like you have a toyota tercel and not a 4runner. See how 31x11.50 Super Swamper fit on a stock rig at my page link in my signature. Can't see how skinny would ever help traction, thats ridiculous. not like the 4000lbs of 4runner is going to float across the top of the snow. Its going to sink down even with 15.50's(my friend has 12 inch lifted runner with 35x15.55x15's on it) so whats the point of making them pizza cutter unless you're trying to save money? If I could fit 33x12.50's under my runner thats what would be on it. Wider is better.

I don't want rubber extending out beyond the flares. So if you don't have flares, the 235s are the way to go. Plus I noticed some are about $16 cheaper per tire!
just my opinion though!

usually tires in the 235/85-16 are dually tires that are D or E load. that will make for a harsh ride.
they do also make 215/85-16 but the only vehicles i ever sell those on are 3/4 trucks and bigger. do they even make those in a C load in that size or not? i gotta say i have never checked on one for a SUV before.

x-elite, I certainly didn't save any money by going this route, but I think they'll work better than wide tires for my purposes. Narrower = less rolling resistance on the road, they should cut through standing water much better (BIG problem here) and in shallow snow & mud, ie less than 10 - 12 inches, should cut through to more solid ground.
If I hate them it'll be an expensive lesson, but I'll report back either way.

Does that look dumb to you? I think wide, aggresive tires looke better than anything else. Thats is of course my opinion but I don't see how a super swamper(built for trudging through sludge whether it is mud or snow) can be beat for mud or snow traction. Those Are 31x11.50x15's and they really make my Yota stand out against the other one's you see in parking lots. Those tires cost me less than $130 a piece so its not a horribly expensive deal, and they will not get stuck in the mud, I've tired everything to get them to. if forward progression sotps, it will always revser out wiht minimal effort. A charge with a lil mores peed and boom your past the mud that your axle was shoving into. When it comes to passing through mud or snow, I can't see larger footprints being beat out by a similar designed smaller foot print. You simply have for tread moving the earth and as a result more forward force. If you can go wide enough your can actualy tread atop the mud but I've only seen that on 15.50+ wide tires, which is rare to see and run about $250 a piece.

I have 235/85-16's on my stock 2001 Tacoma 4x4 on the stock 7in. wheels. They do not rub at all and are very smooth Michelin LTX-MS D range. It is not a rough ride. I have the 4 cylinder and power is not affected at all.
