Look what I found in my blower

I was driving around today and moved my air control from outside air to inside air (or vice versa, can't remember) and heard a thump followed by a vibration noise coming from the blower.

I get home take the blower off and this is what I find inside...

It is filled with some kind of yellow insulation??? Anyone have any ideas where it may have come from?

I then noticed that just to the left of the blower there is a hole going from the passenger compartment to the engine compartment. This hole may or may not be related to the insulation, but it looks like there is supposed to be a hose connected to this thingy:

It's kinda hard to see where the hole is in the picture. It is just to the left of the main part of the light coming out of the flash light.

Here is a picture of the hole from the engine compartment with a flash light shining light from the other side.

Anyone recognize that spot and know if anything is supposed to be attached there?

You may be missing a grommet there. That yellow insulation has been most likely brought in by a mouse and have been making it a home. This has happened to a few members on here. Ill check to see if I have a comparable hole

That would be one busy mouse. I've been using the AC on high regularly lately, but I was camping the other night I guess he could have been hiding somewhere while I was driving home.

That would be great if you can compare holes.

Thanks!

I bet the yellow insulation is from the under-side of your hood

Well, if it was a mouse I hope he's not getting busy rebuilding. I'd hate to have to clean a carcass out of there next time!

...but if there is I'll be sure to post pics.

Thanks for the spot check on the grommet!

that hole should be there, also there should be a hose. it is a drain for the heat/ac system to keep the floor from getting wet when it sucks in rain water or the condensation from the a/c.

This has zero to do with anything, but for the love of all things funny, I damn near started to cry I was laughing so hard at that statement.

Sorry, hijack over.

The yellow insulation was used to coat the underside of the hood on some trucks.

I went for a drive last night.

I think the insulation came from the flap the changes the air control from inside/outside. The flap is still there but now only contains a piece of foam on it. Not sufficient enough to block airflow from outside. When I used to switch the lever back and forth it would make a loud "thump" noise, but it no longer does that because the flap doesn't have as good of a seal. May not have been mice.

Thanks everyone!

probably wouldnt be a bad idea to clean out the garage and set some traps....

A single mouse can destroy an entire rig pretty dang quick!

Mice are persistent little suckers. I've been trying to get rid of a mouse; I've destroyed its home five times already and he keeps coming back.

Yes! I LMAO too. I've never been a fan of quotes in the sig line, but I am going to have to use this one - at least for a while.

Thank you Stumby!

Anyways, regarding the actual problem.... I'm not convinced it could be the doing of a mouse. I think it's part of the truck. Did you do any moving around of parts around that area ever? Or maybe the PO did it? How long have you owned your truck?

It might sound pretty red neck, but just buy some coyote pee and it will keep the mice away. You can buy it online. It is their natural predators and if you put it around you property it will work. I had a friend do it to their house and it worked fine.
