Grinding the caliper to fit factory 15's?

I did my forum search....I found 1 good post and now I can't find it!!!

My friend want's to sell me his powder-coated 15's with Brand new BFG T/A's. I have factory 16's with the bigger caliper. He lifted his truck and bought 16inch 4Runner LTD's and had them powder-coated. He's willing to sell me rims/tires for like 400$!!!! But my caliper is too big! Has anyone grinded their caliper to make the 15's fit? Sorry if its been anwsered already....I couldn't find my exact question.

BAD idea

brakes are a hydraulic system, using fluid and high pressures... removing material on the caliper is not a good idea at al

Slight grinding is fine as a lot of aftermarket wheels rub the calipers.
However if you have factory 16" rims then you have the bigger calipers and the 15" rims won't clear period.

I've been doing some reading...and as long as I shave just a little...I should have no problem...I just want to hear from someone that has done it on a 3rd gen. A lot of ppl have done it here...but on 85 trucks and such....there is A LOT of metal between the fluid pockets and the outter metal that I need to shave a bit....but yeah they probably won;t even clear....nothing is ever EASY!!! I'll have to powder-coat my 16's..that will cost 800$ alone...err but nothing beats that black powder-coat shine.

It will not work on a 3rd gen...you can go from 15" to 16" rims but not backwards. Calipers stick out too far and no amount of grinding will fix it, unless you still want to be able to stop...and drive.

No worky on a 3rd gen 4runners. I went through this years ago and had to buy 15" calipers and rotors to get it to work.

i know a lot of people have ground their calipers. It jsut seems like such a bad idea. I mean you don't know for sure how close you are this is something critical. What if you are in a panic stop from highway speeds generating a ton of heat and pressure and then..... I am just one of those people that if it can go wrong, it probably will, guess that's why I would never do it.

Some Tacos came with a 16" wheel and a slightly bigger caliper. People have ground them and lived. The 4runner 16" wheel/brake setup is totaly different. They are way too big to grind enough away to get a 15" wheel to fit.

You are in luck. I just removed my 15" calipers and rotors in GREAT condition. I got the larger calipers for my bigger wheel/tire combo. No rust california car. PM me and they are yours for say.....$80.00 plus shipping.
