Hey guys I just got my Gibson exhaust installed this weekend. And so far Im pretty happy with it. It sounds really good at idle and up to about 3,000RPM however when Im driving I cant tell what it sounds like after that cuz the intake sounds overpower it so Im gonna have to drive next to it to hear it. Anyways I think its worth it...well so far.

I do have one question tho. Does a Cat-Back go clear up to the cat? or are they usually cut and put on several inches after the cat? The reason I ask is did I get jipped on the install AND does it matter at all? I have no clue and just wanted to know what u guys think. Thanks for any input.

Ya thats what I thought, that it was suppose to bolt to the flange. Im just wonderin if they got lazy and didnt wanna have to put the 02 sensor back in. And no its not welded..Nowhere, just clamps and bolts.

 

No I didnt see it I bought it throught them..4Wheel Parts...But the small pic on Gibsons website looks like it has the flange on it, even looks like it has a place cut out for the sensor too.. Im not worried about it..I just thought it was a little strange. Im guessin they are just lazy.

Ya u should see the bolt on top of the tip...It looks horrible from behind the truck

 

Ya I asked about the tip if they could cut off the bolt and weld it on but he said oh you just need to go down and buy a weld on tip and we will tack it on there for free. I have to go back next weekend so they can "re-check" all the bolts and connections, maybe Ill ask "where's the missing 8 inches?"

Hey man its all good. I wanna know the truth. You make a good point about a re-sell. I will talk to them about it this weekend.

 

I agree with the others, that's a horrible install. Personally, I wouldn't pay for an install that's not welded...since that's already cheap.

As far as the flange...it would logical for it to not have one, because once you take the old one apart, it would most likely develop an exhaust leak (putting old with new) and in the end, it's not necessary at all, so they didn't cut anything.

In the end, I'd still take it in and have them weld it in there, because it's just better. But if you don't mind it like this, it's not gonna cause problems on the street. Off road, if you go into the water in that clamp connection (looks un-water tight) you'll get water further back into the exhaust, which is never good, but not necessarily killing either.

 

I got to disagree with marko3xl3 on this one, it prabably did have a flange, and a gasket and with some ultra black gasket maker, that thing would have been sealed like the day it rolled off the assembly line. I don't see any logic in what they did except for pure laziness.

looks like some of them do and some do not have the flange. Guess you got the one that do not.

 

So even if it didnt have the flange and is suppose to just use the clamp, do you think i should ask them to weld it up? Or is gonna make a difference between the clamp/weld. I know the weld will make it perfectly sealed. Is it worth it then?

 

clamps suck i had some on my last truck leaked like no 2morrow took it back had it welded on ..... heres my current setup front...back...tip i dont think its a hack job i had my tip put in pretty far back if theres one thing i cant stand is when pepole put tips on and the stick out like a foot

 

I had the exact same kit on my 99 and the directions that came with it said to install it just as your is. So they followed the directions. In mine it said to measure a certain distance from the front edge of the muffler and cut the pipe. So same same there.

You could ask a shop to weld it up and take that clamp off though for a better seal and more strength. I had mine for about a year before I sold it and it sounded really great which is why I put a Gibson on my Runner also.

I had some contact issues with the rear end of the leaf springs with my lift shackles so since it was a pickup I just cut it off right after is comes up and over the rear axle and reinstalled the stainless tip for that bling look. I did have to add a hanger to the frame after cutting it off to make it stay put. It sounded even better cut off and no more bashing it on rocks when off road.
