hey guys. i am getting ready to go to paragon, but i have an issue with my fuel gauge. it is stuck WAY up past full, and i have tried to way overfill it to get the float to drop down, but it hasn't worked. anyone else have this issue? it happened while wheeling the crap out of it on a full tank in the rocks. i will drop the tank if need be, but i just thought i would ask before going in to it.

It might seem like a stupid thought... but have you gone under the vehicle and kicked the tank real hard trying to free it?... closest thing that happened to me was I rolled the runner with a trailer, and it jacknifed and dented my fuel tank, and now it goes down to 1/2 a tank when it's empty. (still haven't fixed that )

 

i have tried everything i could, but it is still frozen. i will yank the tank, but figured i would as for other options incase i missed something.

 

i would clean the inside of the tank while you have it out

but that was for the inaccurate reading.
mine was fine until i went wheeling.

 

maybe the gas fairy is being extra nice to you!


Haha, really though, pull out a multi meter and check for any signal. If you have a FSM or know someone that does, take a look at the trouble shooting section, sounds like it's either toast or a wire is messed up.

 

I have the same issue...except mine was stuck on "E" with the light on (for a day) and then it jumped to full and has not moved from that position.

I slammed the gas tank hard and bent it and the skip plate. I am curious as to how to fix it. I have not dropped the tank yet but I think thats what is going to happen. If you do this before me please keep us up to date on YT. Thanks,

Ditto... if you drop your tank and get a dent out of it, I'd like to see how it's done... mine is pretty bad, and the driveshaft only clears the skid plate by about 3 inches now because of the dent. Although, better my skidplate, than a hole in my gas tank

 

I have not dealt with a Toyota unit yet, but they work relatively the same. There have been cases where the "fingers" on the resistor for the level have been stuck in one area of the potentiometer. You might could bend it back just a little, but if you are in the area you might as well buy a new sending unit just to prevent a future problem anyways. Also I have seen a few cases where the wire connectors going into the pump itself were burnt or corroded making a false reading.

 

i have not had a chance to pull the tank yet. i figured i would start with the plug/connctor first, and cleaned it up really nice, but no go. i will have to hook up the meter to it, and then....after paragon apparently, i will have to drop the tank and replace the su.
