Found my next mod

This is not expensive, and pretty practical and should be easy to duplicate for the 4Runner: https://expeditionportal.com/forum/t...your-wj.18969/

That is pretty cool, would be really handy to just pop those out.

2nd gens have a similar mod where you replace the bolt with a bolt run from the underside of the truck and then the seat hinge is held down with wingnuts.

My solution to this was to replace the bolts with studs. It's easy to pop the seat bottom brackets back onto the stud and run a nut down onto it. Much easier than aligning a bolt each time.

I just unbolt that seat bottom. Takes about 3 minutes. Then there's no bracket sticking out on the floor.

Nice mod.
XTerra's came with readily-removable seat bottoms so you can leave then at home.
I removed mine on my first-gen 4Runner and sold them. Those things are unnecessarily heavy at 15 pounds each just to support a butt. Now my head barely touches the front seat backrests when pushed all the way back, and feet barely touch the closed tailgate. I now use thick, firm foam for the seat bottoms in rare cases I have rear passengers. The foam double as my sleeping pad when sleeping in the back.
