Flare Action

Fedex man brought me a present today . Bushwacker Extend-a-fenders. Still debating on whether I want to get them painted before I install them though, gonna check around tomorrow on prices.

And yes I'll do a write-up on install

Thumbs up Great timing!

I just happen to have a brand new set of Bushwacker flares sitting on the floor of my living room. Instructions seem kinda sketchy. I look forward to your write-up.

Bill, silver would look killer on those... I say paint them, I have never seen a set painted I didn't like.. I say either a nice silver or med. charcoal. It is much eaiser to do not.. Also, a bit help is to drill a 1" hole in the bottom of each flare for drainage / washing out.. (I put them in mine front & rear of each flare, and I do not get any build up.. It just washes right out...)

Those will look killer Bill.

Lee, I still have not drilled my 1" holes in mine.
Thanks for reminding me, this will give me an excuse to go to Lowe's.

I need a 1" hole saw right?

Yea, 1" or maybe a 1 1/4" - 1 1/8" will work, but the very front of the front flare would have to be a 3/4" You will need to R&I or at least pull them out a bit to drill the hole.. Then take a old garden hose, take the female end and cut it about 2 feet long (or buy some heater hose and a hose repair kit and make one..) I use this to run up into the flare to wash the insides out..

OK, so the front hole in the front Wacker has to be smaller then.
Is it OK to just make all the holes 3/4"?

You could, but the bigger the better, and a 3/4 hole will not fit a garden hose into it..

I'm painting mine....when I get em. I cant decide between the same gold as the rig, or a contrasting color. Ive made up my mind though.... the bumpers are getting de-chromed too.

Actually if I get them painted then I will get them the same color as the body, I'm not a real big fan of those two-tone jobs like the 3rd gen limited come with. Lee it's kinda funny hearing you suggest a contrasting color when I've been using your rig as reference to what it will look like painted the body color. Ron S.'s old rig, Gadgets now, had the flares painted too but I can't seem to find any pics of it around.

It's a 95 SR5 4Runner . I dont know the true name of the color. I call it a medium gold. I was thinking of possibly using a rootbeer brown color to two-tone it. Bumpers, bushwhackers and grill insert rootbeer, rest of the rig the gold color. I personally like the look of the 3rd gen limiteds... in the right color combos. Bill, I agree w/ firefyter 100% on the contrasting color on your rig. Personally though, I think a little darker than silver... like a pewter of a lead like color. Maybe I'll do a poll later to get ideas for colors for my project.

I am sure that they will look awesome either painted or not. I vote for painted, but that is just my opinion. Goodluck with everything and show us the results when you are done! :fireman:
