I went on a 6 hour road trip up to NorCal to pick up FearToys old frame.....
His old rig;
He almost lost the rear spring, the pearch was almost completely broken out.....
This followed me home.....

BruceTS, your truck actually looks great with the skinny tires!

I thought he had a different rear susp setup that allowed for more flex, but it still used the factory spring perch? Maybe it was just the shock mounts that were custom/different.

It was the spring pearch, with 2 tabs welded further inward from the stock shock location. I didn't see any fatigue to the right side, so he must have hit the left side quite hard on one of his trips, to start the fracture and then it just slowly progressed to the point where there's about 3" section holding it all together. I can't say what the exact cause was without having all the suspension parts to check clearances. My best guess is the added stress of having the shocks mounted in that location. I've seen a few other rigs that ran bilsteins and had their mounts break off. When you angle them inward, you have to use a stiffer shock to achieve similar results, by doing so you increase the loading on the mounts. This is one place that needs more bracing.
This is one of the reasons why I had to re-think my rear suspension, the stock mounts won't hold up after removing the panhard. Since I need to build stronger mount, I decided to do a more traditional triangulated 4-link design, with new mounting points. The frame will be used in setting up the links.
