Question Exhaust Recommendation

Hey all,

I searched but can't find where this was discussed before... Someone/some people had recommended a nice-sounding, low-cost exhaust system to me but I can't remember, for the life of me, what it was.

I think it was priced around a hundred bucks or so. Anyone remember or recommend?

Al

P.S. I heard the exhaust sounds page, nice work Corey. I like how the Dynomax sounds myself, I used to have one on my Toyota MR2.

One of the cheapest ways to do it is to just order the dynomax from someplace like summit and have a local muffler shop weld it in place. I think they are around $40. I think this is the popular one. Just call around some of the local shops and see what they are willing to do for you.

I got a cheapo tip from Advanced Auto a while back. It actually adds a really nice sound. It's kinda deep while idling and while moving less than about 15mph. Any faster and it quiets down. More than I expected from a $7.00 tip. It seems to sound better and better as time goes by. It's lost most of its shine and has a bit of rust, but I think I'll keep it at least till I get a Borla exhaust. Them sounds good too.

Well, have fun.

I'm in the same position Hboss, I have a Magnaflow and a custom 2-1/4" cat-back on my '91 4Runner, and now I just got a new '02 Nissan Xterra and I'm wanting to put a new exhaust on it (after I break the engine in, half way there so far, just hit 500 miles yesterday ) So i'm trying to find a nice muffler (don't have enough to get a full cat-back system yet. And plus the stock pipes aren't bad, they're 2") I'm thinking about putting a Magnaflow on it like I did with the 4Runner, but I'm really considering a Dynomax because it's a bit cheaper. Now I just need to figure out what size muffler I should get

Anyway good luck with the Dynomax

I think I'm going to go with the Rhino perf exhaust. It's about $98 USD with installation. Sounds better, free-flowing. Here are some reviews:

For a picture and sound byte of Al's new muff, log into the exhaust page linked from YotaTech on the web.

Thanks Al.
Hey Philly. Actually I'd never heard of it myself until today but they are apparently similar in price & performance to the Dynomax. They even have their own gaudy stickers to put on your window/truck if you were so inclined to do it.

Anyhow, the guy at Midas suggested it and that's what prompted me to look up reviews for it. Guy said it would last 3 - 5 yrs but it comes with a lifetime warranty which I found surprising. He said it was less expensive because it was not shiny & pretty like others with the stainless steel look, etc.

Well, on to my review: I love it. Louder than I expected but not overbearing. Have a listen on the exhaust page. It does some pretty wicked throat-like growls at low RPM. It also seems to rev more freely. My gf think's it's too loud, which is expected...I think it's perfect.

I have a Downey intake w/ K&N to a Overbore T-Body (RC Engeneering) to a oversized 2 3/4 down pipe (recomended by Tim at DOA over headers) to a Downey free flow oversized 2 1/2 cat, to a 2 1/2 exaust to a dynomax muffler to a Borla Stainless tip.
works great...
