guys there is no difference in 10w30 and 5w30 M1 oil thickness wise. actually the 10w30 is thinner. check their website out. if you want a thicker M1 then go with 0w40. seriously

i use whatever syn is one sale in 5w30 (winter) 10w30 summer. M1 is overrated highly

the real question is what do you put in your Auto Tranny??? thats where the real wear and tear happens. you can put olive oil in our yota motors and be safe. the tranny is what really takes the abuse.. amsoil all the way

Any synthetic 5w30 on newer vehicles like yours. v8 (tundra) filter is a direct fit.

Change the filter every 3 or 4 months, check oil color/condition. If it's still yellow, top it up and keep going for another 3-4 months....

If it's darkening (brown/black) then dump it out and change everything.

royal purple is another over rated oil. i have seen a quite a few uoa's that show most motors over 5k miles on royal purple didnt come back that good. well as good as you may think. if you want to run a boutique oil then amsoil is pretty top notch. luckily for our 6 shooters most oils will do ok up to 5k miles and some over. DO NOT fall for the oils that say change every 7500 miles bc its more to it than just that and most arent good at 7500 miles like they say. its just marketing.. if you want to run a syn find one on sale and run it 5-6k miles TOPS.

well thats good to know, i am planning on switching sometime this summer probably, i just haven't put much thought into it yet. and there is no way i would be running 7500 between oil changes, i usually change every few months anyways as i dont drive my truck very much

if you find a syn on sale then go with that. twice a year or more Advance Auto has Valvoline Synpower on sale buy one get one free and thats what i jump on. i bought a year supply worth and run it 5k miles or so.

-- for you even if you dont drive your truck much the syn oils will withstand time much better than dino so for you time wouldnt be an issue just mileage if you go with syn..

remember guys you have to think about your trannies and diffs too, those are the ones really taking the beating not these easy on oil motors

Ok, that's just not fair, we don't see any 2 for 1 deals like that up here even with a strong dollar.

I'm only about 1 hr from the border but the nearest Advance Auto is a good distance from that.
What time of the year do they go on 2 for 1 sale? ........so I can time my trips.

Well I use Royal Purple 5w-30 in both my 4runner and 88 pickup with a napa filter. It is one of the best full syn out there. Its pricey but I work for napa so its very cheap along with their gold filters!

thats cool if you can get it cheap but i wouldnt pay full price for that just like M1... highly overrated... if i had to pay full price for a syn it would be for Amsoil and Penzoil Platinum.. imo the best two out on the market now and PLENTY of UOA's to prove that... other than that its what ever syn is on sale for me buddy. i worry more about the tranny and diffs than i do motor oil..
