Engine oil: What does everyone like?

Penzoil Platinum is the best over the counter synthetic out now.. many many many UOA's to prove this even over M1. look on bitog.. if i were to pay full price for a syn it would be for PP.. i would not hesitate running 7-8 thousand miles on that stuff with a clean air filter.. its the best bang for the buck out now excluding sales..
btw i buy Valvoline Synpower buy one get one free at advance auto and run 5-6k miles with it.. check your local stores.. they have these sales atleast twice a year if not more. dang good deal

And by the way...
I run 10w40 in winter and 20w50 in summer. My 99 taco with 150K loves it!
The original toyota recommendations for oil weight are for newer vehicles. One you start getting higher in the mileage (even though it's not really high mileage for a yota) it's better to have a thicker oil as it covers the engine parts faster due to the pump being able to get it to the top of the engine quicker.
Just my $.02

Mobil 1 5w-30 Toyota filter
Switched to M1 at 150K after Valvoline 5W-30 for its entire life. I did it just to see if there would be any problems with switching to synthetic, such as leaking oil etc. There have been no issues and I now have 162K.

How about some links instead of having to spend time looking for these specific comparisons?
I'm curious since I've seen nothing with torn down engines in person that would make me change from M1.

you running a synthetic? btw the info on 10w40 (if not a synthetic) is off... that weight may actually do more harm than good in the winter on cold start ups.. if you want to stay in the 40w area go synthetic in 0w40 or 5w40.. in the mtns of NC it can get pretty cold and stay that way. this is were synthetics really come into play bc of its great cold flow properties.. for the summer run whatever you want.

This one is Schaeffers-- pretty decent report. look at the wear #'s compared to the previous mobil 1 uoa's also you have to look at miles on oil

nothin but castrol gtx for me and the previous owner...so it's been gtx for the life of my truck...which is 160k miles. sometimes i even debate on changing it at 3k miles b/c it is still golden-brown in color...but i do it anyways...
#136
Unless you make a lot of short trips you could probably extend your interval a bit. I just put some Castrol GTX 5W30 in myself.
#137
yeah if your commutes are normally 15 mins and longer or most of your driving is highway today's dino oils can easily go 5k miles in these motors.. so have no fear in going 5k miles on a good quality dino oil..
#139
so after reading all of this i normally use mobile1 but i am thinking about switching to Castrol synblend, along with strickly amsoil air filters since i am still running a Fram Airhog and i cant even find recharger kits for it anymore..
anyhow would this be a wise switch?

My motor must be tired, no metal in my oil though, so hopefully I can keep her running well!
