E-locker tech needed

Hey all...I am looking for a write up on how to make the e-locker usable in 2wd and 4hi..I saw the write up about it for the older 4runner, and was wondering if the wiring is the same for the 03 tacoma's. thanks for the help.

Eric

Hello Eric, and welcome to YotaTech.
Was the write-up you saw the one on our Tech page?
https://www.yotatech.com/~corey/tech/techpage.htm

Scroll on down to Off Road Enhancements, and it's the 2nd one down.
I don't see why that would not work for the Taco as well, unless something was changed

thanks for the reply. that is the one i saw. I am going to look at it tonight and see if it is the same.

I have had the truck about 2500 miles and just can't stand to leave it alone. Have to do something to it. I have come from driving a 500HP Z28 everyday to this...so leaving things as is just won't work for me. you guys have a great site here, with a wealth of valuable info. Any other "free mods" around? thanks again!!!

I did this mod very quickly, but to my dismay it didn't work. Now, when in any gear configuration, it just flashes the light instead of at least being locked in 4-low. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Chris

Yes, they're the same wires, but the colors will be different so be sure you've located the right ones before cutting/splicing.

I did the mod to my 02 it works great . I used quick connects so at any time I can put it back to factory.
you do have to roll fwd about 10 ft or be in sugar sand for the locker to engage.

That's normal operation for the Toyota electric locker. I find that if I do a little "S" turn, it helps the locker splines line up and fully engage/disengage. I'm glad you got it working.

also called the GRAY WIRE MOD

It seems like this mod is commonly called the gray wire mod, but I found nothing here when I ran a search. so here it is for the key word search, GRAY WIRE MOD! I did it yesterday just because I could, and it works great on the 2003 Tacoma. Check out this write up for it, it is quite clear. I quoted this post because this is how mine acts all the time, but I just do the S turn and it clicks right in/out. So I hope that helps you. Also, maybe you grounded the end of the gray wire going up into the wire bundle instead of the end that goes into the harness that goes into the ECU? just a thought...

Mine actually was working, but I just didn't know that it took a second for it to engage and for the light to go solid.
